Update: metal 1/4 wave groundplane test report

Nothing to fault, total sucess.

The WVC AAR14, modified simply by removing the heatshrink and soldering the copper elements of a 7-pronged metal groundplane, this one

-to the existing brass tube of the stock diople, and trimming the radiating element to exactly 30mm has proved fautless in operation beneath my Logo 20 (verses inoperable in stock form). Today I flew the Logo to the limits of my ability to see it in all directions vertical and horizontal fast slow banking towards and away (didn't try inverted) all around my MobileMark Omni Mag-Mount-Modified WVC RX - Not a single glitch, not even one in 5 minutes+.

Thank you to mr.rc-cam, yb2 and all who have taken time to help me on this one.

I declare this problem solved. Next!

Hi Just following up on MPA Dave's request for construction details on the metal antenna above.

Tips:
1. The antenna is a perfect heat-sink - need lots of heat to solder it (I ended up shielding the driven element with a metal tube and cooking the whole thing with an electric heat-gun, the kind normally sold for paint-stripping) - I guess any plumber's soldering equipment would work but my electronics soldering iron wouldn't touch it.
2. I suppose it's possible to drill all the holes with a hand-drill and vice but this job was made a lot easier regards centering workpiece and skimming the outside by using a bench lathe, and drilling the radial holes with a mill and dividing head.
3. It's obviously a lot easier to assemble this thing by making sure every 30mm component is over-long to begin with, i.e. so you can trim everything to the 30mm length as the very last step in the process rather than risk coming up short.

Here's the diagram.

Cheers!

Thanks Julian

The diagram makes it clear.
I may end up grabbing one of those myself off you when I get back on to the Tx antenna.

Cheers

Question about the stock PC board type antennas.
It looks like a trace on a pc board in the shape of a 1" letter f.
I see one part of the trace goes to the main anttena input but I
think the other side of the trace is grounded to the rx housing.
Is this true? And can I add a coaxial antenna to the existing trace?

LawMate Antennas -- where can I buy one?

Hello,
Anyone know whwew I can buy a LawMate YA-1206 antenna? I know SuperCircuits sells a YA-1209, but cant find a 1206 anywhere. Basically, I need a very small Yagi for 1.2GHz. Here's LawMates website for the antenna I'm looking for:

http://www.lawmate.com.tw/products_en.html

Any help is appreciated.

Check with www.blackwidowav.com. I recall Bill had a Lawmate 1.2GHz Yagi awhile back. Maybe he still has one in stock.
