Does anybody know of a diffrent motor to put on the tail of my Hummer, I want to put a Orion modified on for the main but have heard that the stock tail motor wont keep up with the increased head speed, any ideas?

I got my tail motor from Helihobby as well, It's the bigger one...only problem I see with it is the main shaft is bigger than the stock one. stock .84 mm, upgrade 1.4 mm so the stock pinion wont fit . Jeff.

FWIW - this is a fixed pitch heli so the headspeed will not increase with a motor change unless you add weight or switch toa different blade. It take so many RPM to acheive flight with motor A as it does iwth Motor B all else being equal.

Now there may need to be adjustments for the stock Hummingboard mixer as the Orion may have a different constant (RPM/V) than the stock motor. If you gear properly, then you should be ok. Also a more powerful motor will create more torque which can cause the tail problems in keeping up. This will probable be the problem that you will see.

The stock tail motor went quickly on mine, so I replaced it with a Wattage B2C motor. This motor has lasted a long time in my HB.

The direct drive mentioned above works well too, but puts a good deal of weight on the tail. The best fix for me was to adjust pinion properly and adjust the gyro to compansate as best as it could. You could also lengthen the tail a bit which would give more authority. I am using a brushless setup now and I can easily spin the heli against the tail rotor if I nail the throttle. I wish I could find a suitable tail motor for this setup but doubt it exists.

Good luck!

You may want to go with separates if you use the larger tail motor since I don't think the Hummingboard tail esc will drive the larger motor.

no, the stock hummingboard will work fin with a direct drive GWS motor. I used it on mine and never had a problem. I never did any severe piros though.....

Just thought I would pass this along. I am running the Orion Elite Mod in my Humming Bird and still have the stock Tail motor in mine! There have been no issue's at all with it. It still works great.

my stock tail motor "let the smoke out" yesterday..kinda sucked too... Kids off to school....wife gone to work...I'm on vacation ...no wind so I set the heli in the back yard and tried to spool it up..not getting enough rev's so I walk over there and see the tail motor is smoking it worked fine yesterday. Anyway I drilled out the pinion and installed the bigger one, It has more power thats for sure I am suprised it did not smoke the esc along with it...going with separates soon though! Jeff.
