Did the heli fly at the lhs with the lhs battery?

First check on your charger and see if it's working. Or charge your heli with your field charger. In my experiance owning a JR 1900 mah or was it 1400 mah whatever, The batt connectors had failed. It would say 100% then next thing dead batt. I stripped the batter open and realized the pack (Jr factory pack) wasn't made properly. The cells were not glued thus making the batt flex thus connectors failed. So my advice strip the batt and make sure the connectors are okay. All you need is a hairline crack and bye bye heli

Hope that helps

kenchoco,
The person that helped you was "Pleskini"(Jeff). He is a regular here on RR.

Send him an e-mail and see if maybe he could cycle your pack for you to determine if the pack is dead.

You might want to invest in a good charger that will give you some readout as to how your batteries are performing if your going to fly e-anything. Afterall, it's the heart and soul of what your doing......

My Hummingbird is also being a pain in the a$$. I can't get it to fly any higher than about 1/2 an inch. Basicky just light on the skids. I've played with the tracking and the battery is at full charge.
I asked around and it seems that the helicopter itself (not ARF) is only about $100.00. do you figure that the engine is even worth $20.00? I'd say the little motors are costing hummingbird around $5.00 each. How long do you expect those to last?

Thew fix is to go out and get a better motor and better batteries.

The stock charger sucks, it's something like .3 mah. the battery is what? 600 mah? This makes the charge rate about half of what you need to properly charge the seed. Use a field charger with peak detection. I did this only to rule out the battery and now I'm waiting on a new motor and batteries.

I tried mine (birdseed pack)last night just to see what would happen now that I am using the etec lith-poly's And it flew great for the time I had it up... A few min. But I am running the elete modified motor and a 12 pinion. My guess it's the motor but you said that it flew fine with his pack....so it's the battery... get a Triton! and get ready to buy another main motor soon though! My tail motor is holding better with the 12t but lookin to replace it soon. Jeff.

Hmmmmm Well, I don't know what's up with you all's setup but Pleskini was over on Sat while I was painting his Raven and Hummingbird canopies and we flew his around my backyard(very tight) with good control.

At first he had his setup off and it was difficult to control to say the least. We had gyros reversed, servos reversed, and the gain turned OFF all along the way. You'd think a bunch of guys that are kick-butt glow pilots could have figured this out sooner... I think this was due to the fact that you get sloppy trying to "slap the thing together" and expect it to perform well. If we would have taken more than 30 minutes building it we would have had better results. But, from what I have seen now that he has everything sorted out it flies AWESOME.

Anyhow, I am very impressed with the Hummingbird myself.

I have about 20+ flights on mine and it is still going strong. I took the time to adjust the atvs and set about 20% expo in the swash and -10 expo on the tail to speed that sluggish beeotch up.

Choco's charge lead adapter was bad, the diode in it had kicked the bucket and he was not getting a charge to the bird seed. I am cycling it as I type on my Triton and so far it has been charging and discharging at about 600 to 610 mah.

It was totally out of charge when I got it. We test charged it up to 490 mah at the shop and it wasnt even luke warm and didnt fly for crap. I brought it back with me and continued charging and pumped another 400mah into it before it peaked, it discharged 600 and started a new cycle. I will test it in my bird tonight and ensure it is holding strong. As far as Choco's bird, I set it up yesterday on my charged pack and it fly like a champ, so its not the motor (yet).

I will hopefully be staring the hbird mods in the next month, but I wanted to play with the oob config first then hop it up to really notice the benefits.

battery and charger

kenchoco,

You stated that you charge the battery for 1 1/2 hour.

I believe there is an error in the manual. It does say to charge for 1.5 hours, but if you look on the back of the charger it says:
Output:12Vdc @300mA

At 300mA it would take 2 hours and 20 minutes (700/300 =2.333) to charge a 700mah battery pack (the birdseed is 700mah) if the charger was 100% efficient. No charger is, but a simple inexpensive wall charger like the one supplied is maybe 75% to 80% efficient, so I would think you would have to charge it for about 3 hours to get a good charge into these batteries. (2.333/.8=2.92).

To be sure that one's battery is always charged to its' max capacity in a safe manner (no overcharging) in order to insure a decent lifespan of the battery pack, one should always use a charger with "peak detection" abilities for use with NiMh batteries (as are these).
