HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Hirobo Sceadu 30

Location:

I would like to hear from any body with experience with the Sceadu 30. I currently have a new one in the box and am wondering if I made the right choice. I have flown the Shuttle Challenge for one year and am ready to progress to a more capable machine. Please post your comments good or bad.

I think you made a good choice

I like my Sceadu it handles and flys great. The only problems I have had have been the OS 50 that is in mine. Wether it is the machines fault or mine I honestly can't say at this point.

Some say do the cooling shroud some say tune your engine right. Who knows. None the less I designed one that might help you. I also have a bunch of other tips on my site that might help you.

Take a look at my Sceadu section.

Sceadu

Jay,

I flew my Sceadu for the first time today. You have picked the right helicopter, it's well engineered and a pleasure to assemble and fly. Enjoy!

Sceadu feedback

Thanks Richard and Volkul for your replies. I look forward to getting the Sceadu in the air. For now I will be flying my Ergo 46 which was just finished last week and only has 3 flights on it. Richard what engine are you using in your Sceadu, 30 or 50. Also what radio and gyro ? Thanks.

50 Size

Jay I'm running a 50 size motor, this is a Sceadu 50 so I can take advantage of the pinion and the larger motor mount. I'm running Futaba 9202 servos and
the Futaba GY-401 Gyro, JR 8103 TX and RX.

I have a Sceadu 30 with an OS32, Futaba 401 and it is excellent. The only thing I hate is the canopy mount system - it sucks !!

I have just ordered the following Hirobo Eagle parts to convert to a decent mounting system.

2511-014 cross member 30mm
2511-016 cross member 22mm
0404-547 Cabin damper set

Canopy Mounts

I found the canopy mount system to be rather challenging and decided I would use the least expensive modification. I cut the ball off the mount, then drilled and tapped it for a 3 mm socket head screw with a plastic thumb screw pressed on. Let me us know how well the real Hirobo parts work for you.

Bob thanks for the info on the canopy mounts. I was at the Los Angeles Fun Fly a few months back and talked to Walt Ferar who had one of the first Sceadus from Hirobo as a sponsored pilot. He mentioned that the weakest point of the Sceadu was the canopy mounts also so I was expecting that. Maybe Hirobo will change it since nobody likes it. I am still putting it together, no hurry because I also fly a JR Ergo 46 CCPM. Great to hear from someone in the UK and every where else. Thanks for the input.

As soon as I have all the parts (next week some time - the cabin damper set is not in stock) I will let you know how I get on. I was given all the info by a person at Irvine UK (the UK importers of Hirobo) who has modified his Sceadu with the Eagle parts.

The cabin damper set consists of 4 metal inserts and 4 metric
grommets. The metal inserts are not used on the Freya and
my guess is that they aren't used on the Skidoo either. So, you
might just want to get some grommets if your plan is to use
the cross members and then a M3 screw into the end.

Canopy

Just my 2 cents,

The Canopy system is a pain. I did something different and it has worked well.

I shaved the mount down to the same inside diameter of the grommets. Now the canopy slides on and off smooth and the grommets still provide dampining for vibration. You can also still use the body clips in the kit.

Good Luck

I got all the Eagle cabin parts on Friday. They were fitted in about 10 minutes. The mounting system is transformed and works well now. I would suggest that anybody who has trouble with the mounting system to spend the extra cash (about £15 UK) and buy the Eagle parts listed in my earlier post - you will not regret it !!

Is this right

I have to questions in regards of the Sceadu 30

1. Tail Mount

You have to insert the tail more into the Main frame than it should be is this correct. Can someone send me a picture how it looks or describe it to me

2. Rotation

Since I am new to heli I have a question. When I rotate the main blades against the clock my tail rotates. Is this correct or wrong

Please let me know

My Sceadu

If I get the camera tomorrow, I'll have a few Photos to show of my Sceadu EX.

It's not a new model, just a quick garage style upgrade for the fun of it.

2. The rotation of the tail when you spin the main rotor counterclockwise is absolitely normal. That is the way it's supposed to be!

Cabin mounts

I just want to say thanks for the part numbers for the cabin mounts. I got mine today from Rick's and they work great. Much better than the stock setup I think. For less than $20 it is well worth the money.

I can't help you with the Sceadu but I can comment on your English. It amazes me to see people that are (at least) bilingual. I love America and all but I wish we had an education system and a society that placed more emphasis on learning other languages.

You impress me with the fact that you can come in here with another language other than your own and still communicate effectively. Sorry for the speech.

I wish I had a talent for languages but while my girlfriend speaks English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Russian, and Hebrew I have no hope. Clearly Americans don't commonly speak many languages because they don't need to. In Europe there are many countries as close as states are here, so they have that perspective. They also hear English in the movies so they at least want to learn that -- bang, instant two languages. I have a better idea -- we concinvce the rest of the world to speak English. True, English is inconsistant (beer, bear, bare. Read and read (reed and red)) Many problems with it, but it is the most popular.

One thing is clear -- the world does not need 300+ languages. It oinly needs 8

English
French
Spanish
Japanese
Chinese
Russian
Italian
German

Not much else. Maybe a few more, but not 300.

As far as forced bilingual education - in Japan, everyone has to learn \English in school, yet very few people ccan actually speak it. So it does not work unless you can use it daily.

I only speak two languages. Hungarian is my native tounge and English is my second language.

Rsilvers, I personally think we only need one language: English. Even in the EU the official business language is declared to be English now. As long as one knows English he/she can get away with it anywhere in the world.
BTW, the Indian (not native americans) would like hindi and other dialects of theirs added to your list as they are about to surpass China in population. Also there are over 15 million Hungarians total, so Hungarian should be on the list as well .

As far as Japaneese English goes, just check out www.engrish.com and you'll see what I'm talking about .

And for a joke:
Q: What do you call a person who speaks three languages?
A: Tri-lingual.
Q: What do you call a person who speaks two languages?
A: Bilingual.
Q: What do you call a person who speaks one language?
A: American.
