Ok this is a total newbie question... I notice that when I am landing my heli (Shuttle ZXX) I need to feed a lot of collective to keep from landing too hard. The Collective feels 'soft' or 'mushy' at center stick. What settings do I use for my pitch and throttle curve? or does anyone have any suggestions for this problem. I have a Futaba 8U*** radio.

Thank you in advance,
alex--

the reason is because you are letting the throttle
decay too far so that when you are landing and
(because your a newbie) remove too much
collective, you need to put some back but by
that time, your headspeed has decayed which
contributes to the mushy feeling.

You might want to bump up the midpoint(s)
of your throttle curve a bit and/or take a closer
look at the low side of your pitch curve. You
probably dont want more than -1or -2 pitch on the
low side at this point in your learning.

This all assumes the machine, rods and curves are correctly setup in the ffirst place.

re: collective at takeoff/touchdown

I had the same problem recently with my new Raptor, I had just set it up with a straight throttle/pitch curve. It was underpowered just before lift-off, and quick to land. Just pull up the curve near the center (to the left especially) so it is mainly pitch control near half-stick and things will be much more stable for you. I'm a newbie too and we just made this change to my curve and it has made a very noticable improvement in control during lift-off and landing.

After several hard landings you do apply more collective stick when hovering - more than the required mid-stick position? This happens as the swash slams down on landing & bends the L-shaped collective lever towards the servo. Just hold the bell-crank bolts firmly & bend the ball-ened lever back to neutral, i.e. is perpendicular to the top levers. At a hover, you want everything to be 90 degrees as in the manual and the pitch at 5 degrees or so.

Any heli pilots here in Colorado? Where do you have you're hover pitch set at?
