Hey all! Well I just rebuilt my viggy from a dumb thumb and got a new set of v-blades to try out from a friend (thank you bob00). I have tried alot of carbon blades and wanted to try out a set of V's to see what all the stink was about with these blades. Blades I have tried are
nhp 700mm sports
ms 680mm fai pros
ms 680mm 3D pros x 2
ms 680mm standard
ms 710mm fai pros
The nhp's where great for 3D and all sport type flying. The ms 680 fai blades where ok for 3D but great for what they where made for fai but I found them very touchy in the wind. the 680mm ms 3D blades where great for flip floping but where very unstable in ff. The ms 710mm fai blades where great all around, good 3D performance with no flybar weights and light paddles and good in a hover for backwards flying. Then came the V-blades at 700mm long and a weight of 190g these blades act like a fai blade but when you start to 3D them they start to show there true performance!

I found them to be very stable in fff but very agile for 3D. Well doing mulitple rolls the blades where very quiet unlike the ms blades. Well doing flips and rolling flips the v's felt almost the same as ms blades but with less foof poof sound. the one thing I have noticed with the V's is they unload more then the ms blades, maybe due to the different air foil of the blade. As for the V-blades being indestructible is a myth, I have seen three sets of V's ripped apart in the last three weeks and two of the crashes where not very bad. Anyway I just wanted to share this with you and get your input on the who has the best blade thing. I am know where near a great flyer and this is just what I have found with my heli and setup.

Thanks
Chris

V Blades are basically hand-made; one pair at a time. Vic has done some things to speed up his manufacturing process (like hiring Dave Storey), but he simply refuses to jack up production simply for more profit. He has been approached twice, that I know of, by major players wanting to buy him out. We're talking major six figures here. But he enjoys doing what he does, makes a reasonable living doing it, and is not inclined to sell. He also knows that if one particular "big name" who tried to buy him out got ahold of the line, quality would suffer.

What I'm saying here is that, while you can buy blades that are as good as V Blades, there are none better; in terms of finish and balance. You may find a set of blades that do better for your flying style, but NOBODY beats V Blades for being truly ready to "bolt on and fly". Vic's tolerance is 0.1 gram.

Another good, relatively inexpensive blade is the Gamma series. I had a 70cm set of those on my Vigor, Chris; simply superb.

A real "sleeper" is the Leisure Tech series of sport blades. These are imported through Canada by Phil Noel. Rick's has 'em; like, $80 for a set of 680s. A bonus here is that Phil "tweaks" each pair when he gets them, before shipping to dealers. I've had three sets of Leisure Techs (still flying 680s and 550s), and they are the only blade I've personally dealt with that were perfectly matched like V Blades; weight AND CG, both chord- and spanwise.

I also have a set of MA RotorSport 690s (from the German vendor, I believe) that are absolutely beautiful, and fly to match. But at $150, they are my "Sunday go to meetin'" blades.

There is a literal plethora of blades available out there today. Most everybody swears by his chosen brand.

While we're on the subject, anybody have any experience with the CMT or OMT (not sure what the first letter is) line of glass blades? I just received a pair of 550s. Nice overall, with brass drag hole inserts. But I've never heard of this brand.

Steve, the German made MA 690's are TG's and yes they do fly very nice. I've had the pleasure to fly about five sets and the misfortune to break four of them. The one from Miniature are expensive, retailing at $144.95, but they have never varied more than 0.1 gram, bolt on and fly in other words. It is my understanding that the new German carbon 700 MM blades that Miniature is selling are Gammas, and at $89.95 retail, in white, they are a bargain. I have a set of the white and black ones, $99,95 retail, and they look and fly like a set of TG's. I did have to add about 0.2 grams to one blade to make the balance perfect ( the CG's were dead on), but I can live with a slight amount of work to still get TG flight performance for over $50 less. The TG's fly a lot like the NHP 680C's, very neutral, reasonably quick, but with much better auto performance than the 680C's. I would imagine, since Curtis has started using V-blades, that they have pretty much the same charactistics. Curtis may change brands, but what he wants from a heli or a blade doesn't change.

Re: Ouchie

Hi Pete I put the viggy in a week before you came up to fly with use. There was no time to flight it, I had flip it to a inverted hover about 2 feet of the ground in front of my self. It was a little tilted to the right and insted of just correcting it I thought about it then put in the wrong input. As the heli rolled it hit a blade on the ground. The heli was still in the air hovering with one and half blades then a ball link let go and choped the tail off and she piroed into the ground So after I was done rebiulding the heli bob00 gave me a set of v-blades to try out. good to here you got the viggy back up and running! Tell jim we need more vids please and hope to fly with him soon.

Steve Thanks for the input! I had a set of blades from Phil when I first started to fly last year and liked them but didn't really know how to use them at that time. One of the guys in our club and a good friend of mine is the Canadain importer of the ms blades and are around $30. to $40. bucks cheaper then nhp's and where cheaper then v's. I found a shop in T.O that sells them for the same price as ms blades now. Maybe over the winter I will call Phil and see if he has a good set of 3D blades I can try out. I did not know that each pair of v's are hand made that is WAY COOL! One thing I did not like about the v-blads is the finish. I mean they do not shine and there is little bubbles in the blades. It does not make the performance any wrose just when the heli is sitting there they look a little dull and old. Where can you get a some of these Gamma series blades? Anyway thank you for your post Steve.
