Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > Vario Turbine Mechanics???

I see that John White sells the Jetcat mechanics with Turbine for £3400, can this be turned into a pod and boom heli or is it really just for scale bodies.
If anyone has used these mechanics in a pod and boom can you e- mail me, is just a case of finding the swashplate and head, boom, tail, and all the other relevant bits???
Thanks

Jetcopter SX?

Are you referring to the jetcopter sx...if so yup it is pod and boom and uses the HP-5 jetcat mechs. Uses Vario Head and tail with custom radio tray and landing gear and boom.

The mechanics I was refering to just includes the turbine, side frames, main gears, belts etc, main mast, You have then to find a Swashplate, head, boom, and tail.
I have seen the Jetcopter and also the latest Hotcat, but they both are complete helis.I just wondered if anyone has bought just the mechanics and added the relevant swash and head to make a pod and boom heli.
Cheers

If you contact JETLINE in the UK, they are the official agents for the turbine, mechs and the HOTCAT. They also sell the parts seperately for the conversion to pod & boom.

I just went to Johns site and saw that it was a JetCat PHT3 Turbine..I was talking about the HP 5...any way...I am sure the Vario Benzin Trainer swash, washout and rotor head would work as it does on the HP 5..

What is the difference in the PhT3 and HP5 mechanics?
It looks like I will go with either the Hotcat from Jetcat or the Jetcopter which I believe is based on Vario mechanics.
What do you think of your Jetcopter, assuming the one in photo is yours?
Does it fly well, and is it easy to start as people have told me.
Which exhaust should I go for as I am told the that comes with the kit is pretty poor>
Thanks for replying so far

The PHT3 and HP5 are the same.

The PHT3 was renamed HP5 just for the USA market - The USA has to be different to the rest of the world again

picture is not mine....

But I am building one as we speak... Bill Ludwig of Arizona Heli is the proud popa. The exhause that Bill has on his is sweet...nice chrome finish...but weighs 2.5 lbs...jet cat has one that is 1/2 lb that is not as pretty but just as good...see pic

There is a difference between the two...one is AMA approved for the USA and the other is not, because of programing changes that are done to the e.c.u. by JetCat USA

hp5 vs pht3

midwestpilot you are wrong about the pht3 not being supported by the AMA. both units have been approved by the AMA. i have the same pipe as bill which where made by Rick Gonzalez ( turbinesrule). this is one sweet pipe and works great and as for the weight the heli would not know the difference 5+ horses under the hood!!!!!!

JetCat HP5 (P80) JetCat HP5 ECU date accepted 11/18/2002

Graupner/JetCat PHT3 Jet Tronic ECU date accepted 01/09/2003

Jakadofsky PJ-W ORBIT ECU date accepted 04/30/2003

my bad for not checking for updates...I oppologize for the mis information....I am going to find out today what the exact difference is between them...I will post as soon as I get it.

The PHT3 and HP5 are identical except for the sticker. The reason we have it as the HP5 in the USA is because JetCat has a liability insurance policy that audits each unit that is imported here and only covers those units. If turbines are sold into the USA from abroad, they are not covered by this policy JetCat owns. When you warranty a product in California, no matter how you write your disclaimer, you are liable. This is why JetCat USA only does warranty work on engines that we sell here. This does not mean the engine you buy abroad is not warranted in the USA. Some distributors have their own warranty and insurance policies but they must be sent back to them for repairs. We also keep the prices the same in the USA as in Germany to discourage purchases abroad.

My source for infomation was....well....stupid....and I thought he knew what he was talking about...so I believed him..got on runryder and spewed his misinformation...then optikaman called me to the carpet (not sure how that saying came to be...but will go with it)So I desided to double check my source....and I emailed Bob Wilcox earlier to clarify the HP 5 vs pht-3 debate...but he beat me back here to post the results....

So I am eating crow....would taste better with BBQ sauce

Any way....Peter....you certainly have your answer now!!

Anyone got a toothpick...this crow gets caught in my teeth...

called me to the carpet

midwestpilot its not bad down here on the carpet, you get to pick up all the peaces everyone else drops. I ordered the upgrade gear for the Jetcopter yesterday and i can't wait to install it and try some nice rollls now and maybe if i bring a spare set of shorts i will even try some low inverted stuff.

Post info on how the install goes..

My buddy and are are very interested in the speed up gear...not so interested in breaking down the heli...post info after you install it on how easy or not so easy it was to do...and Bob W. if you are reading...will this void the warranty if we do this ourselves?

Optikaman...thanks for being understanding...There are parts on the carpet?.....any speed up gears....damn...did not think so....

The Jetcopter can do right hand rotation. You will have to find somewhere else for the fuel tanks since the main gear is moved to where the fuel tanks are located.

Left hand rotation is not a big deal. You will need to put in a bit of left cyclic when you lift off. Once you unlearn the automatic right cyclic you normally put in there won't be any problems. This took me about two lift-offs. Until you learn it, leave a couple of metres clear space to the right.

Doing loops and stall turns, you will need to put in some right-aileron correction sometimes to keep it dead straight. If you don't mind losing style points for corkscrewed loops then there is no issue.

Most of the assymetric blades available in Jetcopter size are for left hand rotation.

Alan, thanks for the great tutorial for the gear change. The only thing I can add to it is HP5s came with both 267 and 270mm lower belts. If you had one with a 270mm lower belt already you might need to slot the holes for the engine to raise it up. This will misalign the starter. All you need to do is loosen the starter and re-center it to the compressor nut and your good to go.

Be careful of the hall effect sensor on the electronics box. It goes through the side frame and points toward the compressor nut.

Maybe you should make a separate post for these instructions.

This gear upgrade does not affect the warranty - unless you screw it up making the change!
