Turboracer, nice lookin' ride! BTW, my 0-60 foot times suck...Firestone street rubber ain't a M/T slick but I DO get a Christmas card for my Firestone tire dealer every year!... Slicks and a 3.73 gear would help (2.54 now) but we (my bride and I) drive these cars all week long. So they're fast enough for now. My new GMC Envoy has the V8 and a 3.73 gear; so now I'm on the prowl for Mitsi Montero's, Ford Exploders and Honda 4-Rubbers on the way home...sigh...I MUST be gettin' OLD!!!

RappyTappy - Just because it's fun to get it dirty doesn't mean it's not a track car. If you decide to make it fast, for the 1/4 m, then it is a track car. If you decide to jack it up, put on mud tires, and shield the undercarriage, then it's a rally car. It's by FAR bot a rally car from the factory. It's whatever you make it to be.

I'd like to see how far you get "rallying" a stock WRX. It's funny how people think that because it competes in rallys, the one you buy from the scooby dealer down the road is automatically a WRC car.

Maxx - thanks!

The problem with the heavily modified, turbo fed, NOS injected, 4 cylinder import engines is that to get the power out of them needed to run 10s or better you have just cut their life down to nothing.

These engines are built light and thin, they cannot take that kind of abuse for long, so yeah they are fast - but I bet they are not still running 15 years from now to give to your kid. My 73 Nova can have the crap beat out of it on the straights and still run forever. My first child will get it from me when he/she can drive. BTW the Nova is a beauty and a 4 door. Total cost, including car = $4000 just my two cents.

BTW before the flamers come firing, I drive a Nissan Sentra SE as my daily driver and I am very impressed with it.

oneinnesja - you may be right about some engines, but wrong about others. Yes, if you turbo/squeeze a honda motor it won't last loing. It wasn't built for boost.

On the other hand, the 4G63 (eclipse/talon turbo) engine is crazy strong. It can handle over 20psi of boost with only fuel upgrades. The motor is virtually bulletproof. The 3SGTE turbo 4 in the MR2 turbos, and the Cellica All Trac is the same way. You can boost the hell out of it.

It's the cars that weren't meant for boost who's engines warp and pop.

And nitrous is stupid on 4 cylinders. Who needs nitrous when you have a big turbo? You're just asking for trouble with that.

well

True but if you dont care to run high boost at the track u can always lower ur boost and do engine oil changes and maintanance and a 280-300 whp honda will last for years!!

Hmm, notice that the Europeans and Asians viewing this are sitting back with wry smiles on their faces.

The cars are built for VERY different markets, sure the 4-pots you speak of have much less torque and a little less power but they wiegh an order of magnitude less.

Certainly in Europe, 1/4 mile speed is not so important for an out of the box car. A WRX or almost any of the performance 4 wheels drives from the past 20 years will steal your cookies and be waiting for you at the finish in a proper test of all round performance.

So come on gents, "all american big block V8 Muscle" is ok for you guys but for us the Drag strip or the oval just doesn't cut it, we like light powerful machines with neutral handling.

So lets not get all xenophobic about our cars and says things like "Hondas suck" or anything less than 8 cylinders is for your grandmother.

How about a car that handles with american iron in it? Imagine a Civic with a small block chevy and a tube frame. Crazy. I've got an old Jaguar XJ6 with a small block chevy, and it really does seem to be the best of both.

Thanks, John Cadwell

How about an old 70's Z with a 350?

I love the way the old Z's look but with the old mechanical fuel injected 6's, just to little power. The engine in my grand Prix in an LS 76 series II supercharged. The engine comes with forged crank, pistons, rods and the block has four bolt mains.Actually the mains are cross drilled(they bolt up from the side) for extra strength. The only weak link in my setup is the supposed to be heavy duty trans blowing apart.I guess I will have to get one of those new front wheel drive units from the Caddy's.I will admit one thing that turbo charging is much more efficient but you will need some type of intercooling to keep predetonation down.I think in the future I will replace the the Eaton M90 for a turbo, but I will have to wait for the warranty to go up!

Ya the display lighting is kinda on the bright side until I shut it off!I have no need to see much on the dash with the heads up display and even that has it's own on/off switch.Oh and for all you socol BIG boost guys just remember this, Measurable boost is a sign of restriction.

Doesnt matter how fast they are on the drag strip, in regular traffic the mustang is no faster than an escort 1.6....

A bike on the otherhand....

ah the joy of filtering past those tin boxes...

If only I could find a safe way of getting my heli to the field without strapping it to my back and looking like a mobile windmill
