How many have gone to a YS 80 in their Milli? Are you using the stock gearing? Was it worth it?

Just looking for thoughts on it (and help deciding if I want one)

Thanks

I using 80 ys in my Milly mk2
you have to use a conversion kit, i bought mine from Gemany,
with special pinion, metal larger fan, clutch h.d, and more .
also you have to use blades 71 cm
if you interested, i can ask for you for the kit, the cost is
110 usd, and the deal with carbon blades 71cm nhp is 160$

let me know

I have been waiting for my coversion kit for 3 weeks now. I wonder whats taking so long. By the way, what's the gear ratio for your conversion kit?

Thanks

Milli 80

Depending on which conversion kit you get you have a choice of 15 or 16 tooth pinion which gives gear ratios of 8-1 and 7.5-1 respectively.

Both a bit low for the YS 80, but perfect for the OS .91.

Stew Langencamp has been flying the stock Milli II and YS. 80 for about 6 months now (9.23-1) without a problem, but he does use a Governor to keep the revs down.

We have a YS 80 and now an OS 91 flying in Xcells in my club and the YS guy is about to flog his YS 80's for the OS 91.

Why?

Not as complicated
Less to go wrong
Only two needles
Gobs of power

The OS .91 definitely seems like the way to go.

If you asked me, you could have a conversion kit in 5 days.
i am using 16t, much better, 15t will give more rev, less power.
with 71cm blades, 16t, tons of power, the engine doesnt change revs under +11 pitch.

YS 80 in Nova, awesome!

Hey Stewart and all,
I'm currently running a YS 80 in my carbon Nova with a 8.89 gear ratio and it's awesome! I just took .035 in. off the face of the engine mounts with a verticle mill., used a 23 tooth clutch bell, which gave me perfect belt tension. I'm running a head speed of 1750 with no govenor and I'm getting very little overspeed in 3D maneuvers. I'm using a large volume Hatori bolt on SB-17 rear muffler which requires no throtttle servo repositioning, CP30% with OS 8 plug. The torque as you know is incredible, making for some awesome 3D. I'm very happy with the engine smoothness and consistency, what's up with this YS 80 carb. mod? I've heard it smoothens the midrange for FAI hovering, but I see no need with my set-up. This engine and Heli has brought a new level to my 3D flying! Have you seen Mark J. lately?
