As you know I have had problems with the stock setup on the Hummingbird. It is solved now with my new setup.

Orion Elete modified motor---- Tower hobbies
E-Teck 2c 1200 lith-poly pack----Helihobby.com
Using a 11t pinion but bought a few more to play around with. -- tower again.

Also bought a power supply for the Triton, I ordered it 2:00pm last Wedensday and it was at home on Thursday. Paid ground shipping...from New York to Colorado quick ground service huh?
http://store.yahoo.com/bsless/ps14kx.html

The rundown...

The Orion motor is a little bit smaller than the stock, you will need smaller screws to mount it with also the pinion setscrew will make contact with the support brace so I filed it smooth with the pinion OD.

The E-tecks were alot smaller than I thought! Who would believe you could get this much power from a little pack? charging only took about 20-30 min from a 1/2 drained cell. not bad given the flight time my pack is as far as it can get up front to help with the C of G. It's lighter than the Birdseed packs. I need to make a trey to help out.

The only other thing needed now is a new Tail motor, with the new main powerplant online the tail is lagging a little bit. I will post back what I end up using. but for now it's holding...

From the first time I fired it up I knew this was it! I did a few flights on the non charged batteries and got a few 10 min flights.. Then charged them up and got a 20+ min flight!!!, Motor was worm but not even close to hot. I did check it at 5 min. and it was still cool. no more no lift problems with this setup! Jeff.

Good to hear you got it sorted!

I too am more than pleased with my upgraded bird,i used to have a piccolo and spent hunfreds of pounds on it,then sold it as i could not get a consistant stable heli, the humma is better stock than a modded Piccolo (im my opinion)!

My settings are;

Speed 300 motor
9t pinion
1200mah 2cell kokams

I too have probs with tail motor but having tried the bigger motors i am going to try changing the pinion gear on my stock tail first to make it spin faster as i have more head speed know. The bigger motors havemore power but are much heavier and drain more current,so im thinking if i can get a bettr tail motor with a similar size to standard, a GWS b2c i believe,i think gearing it higher will be the answer?!

Keep me posted as to how you get on,

Regards Les

Jeff Thanks for the followup

Thanks for the complete setup. Every one talks about what they did but you are the first to give complete details. I am new to electrics so it is very helpful. Gonna try to do the same setup as you.

Thanks again,
Mike

12t pinion

I started farking around with it tonight and did some FF in the back yard ( dont try in ANY wind) I had a little and ended up breaking a blade...anyway I installed the 9T pinion and did not like it one bit! The head speed was WAY WAY too low and it reminded me of the stock set up Do with my quick thinking I figured it was the pack getting low...but just for Run Ryders troubleshooting sake I thought I might give the 12T a shot before throwing it on the charger... Man-O-Man I thought the 11T pinion was nice...I just might think this 12T pinion is the way to go! I say that B/C I am going to try a 13T but might be pushing it... On the 11T the aleron-elevator was slow and I was almost behind the heli but thought it was the way it was..but the 12T it's snappy!! it feels like my nitro ones now ( well ya know lets give it some credit )other than the drift from the prop wash it's THA S%&T !! This is it guys!! man I am happy with this thing... might have to order another...Jeff. But you know...remember I am up here at 80,000 feet..

Les, Yeah the b2 tail motor is the one I am going to get, Mine is tail heavy now as is and don't need to add more back there! I have not looked into pinions for the tail yet...after this 12T pinion the tail is up to the game... but I have heard it's not long before they go out so now is the time to get the mod ordered... I saw some guy installed a b2 motor and a 3x2 prop on his.... anyway... gatta go fly !! Jeff
