Safe, that would be perfect for flying after work. Isn't that really close to I-55. I take 55 home every day and go to 83, so I go right past 1st ave and Lagrange rd.

Yep.

It's closer to I 290 but not to far from I 55.Where do you work?If you take 290 get off at 1st ave and go south and once you have past Roosevelt rd, you will see the entrance on the left hand side.If you come from 55 take 1st ave north until you pass 22nd (Cermak rd) and it'll then be on your right.Check it out and let me know!

Cool.

Why don't you bring your heli to work and fly it out in the yard?I bring mine where ever i go and i fly it anywhere.I live by O'hare airport and have to be carefull where i fly it.If i'm not mistaken, you are required to be at least 3 miles from an airport (AMA rules). The only thing about flying by me is that every time a jet goes by it creates a wake turbulance over the trees and tends to push the heli down. The first time this happened, i crashed. It cost me blades, flybar and tail boom.I know what to expect now.

Really?

That would really suck!Everyone at my work watches like it's the most cool thing.Did you go and check the field out? There are many ways to get there.Probably the fastest would be to take 55north to 94 west go a couple of miles and get on 290 west (eisenhower) get off at 1st ave and make a left go past Roosevelt rd and it's on the left.Check it out and let me know. How long have you been flying and how far have you gotten?I'm relatively new 2 yrs off and on..

Is this the one by all the forest preserves. If so, I go there every once in a while with Mike from Al's.

As for my flying. This will be my second year. I started late last summer with a Piccolo (Bad Idea), then bought an LMH (Very Good Idea), then I traded the Piccolo for a Raptor. Here I am know with a R50. Last weekend I got Nose-in hovering down pat. And I am working my courage up to try auto's. I am hoping that by the end of the summer I can loop and roll stationary. You might think that I am nuts, but I can do all this stuff flawlessly on the sim. I just have a major pucker factor behind the real life thing

As for my work, these guys are unbeleivable. The gripe and moan about every little thing and the worts part is there not even mature about it. There are sometime its so bad that you just have to laugh about it. I mean there are of course the guys who did think it was the coolest thing in the world, my boss included, and there is also a planker here who just thought I was nuts for flying in the wind that I did. But truely I think its just the divorced and should be on viagra guys that have a problem with it (And we've got lots of them).

I know.I know :O)~

I'm not ready to paint it yet because i'm still going through the learning phase.I don't have much time to fly and nose in scares the pants off me.How high do you guys fly?I'm pretty good at hovering from either side and I have been doing some forward flight.I can do things as long as it's either side ways or tail in.Maybe one day we all can get together and fly.I usually bring my digital8 video camera and a tri-pod so that i can tape the practice. It helps because it really show where you screw up.

Well Ken, Most of the time I am home all day long. Just outside flying my heli. Saturdays are a definate that I'll be home, at least until I have a few spare dollars to spend. Sundays are sometimes iffy because of the GF. But if I am not home you can just page me, I'll IM myy number to you.

Safe, I would get a lot of sim time in and learn nose-in. Once you can hold a hover in the sim you just a few tanks away from doing it just as well on the heli. For me I learned nose-in on the real thing in a low hover. I tried higher up but the altitude always mix me up on what attitude the heli was at. Now I just have to work on smoother circuits and figure 8's. And safe trust me when you finally learn nose in you'll wonder why you waited so long. It almost acts as a crutch. I use to fly the same way you described and it always looked sloppy. Mainly because I was trying to keep and eye on which way the tail was swinging. No I can do all sorts of new things and I pat myself on the back everytime I fly.

If you don't have a sim I would just get FMS, it works just as well as the rest and its completely free. If you are running Win 95 or 98 I can give you one of the cables that I made. I can't use them anymore because I am running W2K.

Cool .

I don't have time for a sim.If I find time I just grab the bird and run!!I can orientate myself to the point where I can almost do it until it is directly pointed nose at me.Can you do pirruetes yet?I can land on raised objects like boxes, trash cans, car roofs , etc. That will be my goal for this summer is to learn nose- in and autos.Hey, I think that Raptor needs some stripes or something, don't you?

Yah, I can do Piro's there not really coordinated unless I do them really slowly. And I was practicing my nose in landing yesterday.

But the nice thing about sims is you can still fly when it rains outside. You may not have that problem because yours is electric. But it does help ease bordem.

I have been trying to find a design for the canopy but can't really decide on what I want to go with. I am thinking of just useing sticker making material and putting on stripes or a design.

Hello all,
I usually never check the "Clubs and Associations" section of this board but was delighted to see all the posts for this thread!! I no longer live in La Grange but grew-up there and my parents still live there. To make a long story short I got into r/c heli's about 7 months ago and after my Dad saw these things fly, he got into it as well. I wanted to find some near by fields and other heli pilot so that he (and I, when I come to visit) had others to enjoy the hobby with. Both my father and I are novice pilot and we're both now addicted to it!

For those of you in the area. Al's is having a fuel sale!!!! If you by 5 cases or more (4gal/case) Coolpower 15% is only $11.25/gal!!!!

Kind regards,
Tom
