My hummingbird flew great the first 6 flights or so. Now I notice that after getting it to hover for about a minute it begins to loose all power like it used to do when the battery was low. In know its not my batt since I cycled it and it accepts a 600 mah charge. Is this a sign of a burnt motor? I do notice the motor getting hot. Shouldnt it last longer than this?

you'rs is acting just like mine, my new motor and lith-poly batteries will be installed tonight and I can let ya know then....My batteries (bird seeds) both accept a 600+ charge but only get 30 sec of flight time...then back on the ground....Jeff.

Well, that makes three of us, I'm getting no real lift to speak of, battery accepts a full charge and the headspeed seems to be there, but after about a full minute from a full battery, I get no lift. barely an inch off the ground if I induce lift with forward flight.

Some have suggested it is the motor. Some suggest blade tracking. I'm thinking I should have swallowed the extra 200 and gone with a piccolo. It's looking more and more like i'm going to have to replace the engine after about 15 flights.

I strongly suggest that anyone considering buying a Hummingbird hold off until these problems are explained by the manufacturer.

I expect that these micro's are going to be more sensitive and harder to fly than a nitro heli but other than crash damage, the parts should be able to last for more than a few weeks of casual use. I blame myself for broken blades but It's the manufacturer that should be accountable for the motors failing prematurely.

I have had this problem a couple of times myself. Two different bird seeds, one of which had worked fine a few days before. It would not lift off more than a few inches for about a minute, so I twisted both of the the blades to increase the pitch and I was up to the ceiling in a couple of seconds. I had to do the same this morning with it just before I came to work. It would not climb over about a foot, so I twisted the blades and was able to fly about 5min all over the living room.
I think I will try using a blow dryer to get the blades to hold the twist I put in them more permanately.
Give the twist a try, it just may be the problem.

I’ve tried that, and checked everything on mine...it will lift off to the ceiling on a brand spanking new charge then it starts to fade in 30 sec. slowly heading towards the floor.....let it set for 10 sec. goose it...it will lift off 5" then back down. I tried untwisting, twisting the blades it all acts the same. If my new stuff does not work tonight Im gunna punt this bird into orbit Jeff.

I second that. Maybe ill take it up with my Sceadu and see how well it autos.

Actually it was a lot of fun when it was new. If the motor works out for you Jeff, i might try the same.

I know of some guy's that work at one of our LHS and they suggest boiling the blades in Water for a few minutes. The other main LHS get a strange look if you mention this, kinda one of those, "you go ahead, well stock some extra blades while you go through this dumbass stage" Looks. So I'm not sure, they said though to lay them in a flat pan with boiling water for about one minute, twist the blades and hold them while they cool.

Give it a try and let me know how you make out :-)

WOW!!

Ok guys this is the setup!! Team orion elete modified, 11t pinion, E-Teck 2C 1200 pack Lith- poly I would get a few more pinions for you to play with. I just set it up as stated and flew it 10 min without charging the pack as is from the mail. MAN!! this is going to be SWEET!!! no more problems! lifts off like a heli should...great controlable power...and for not charging 10 min of flying steady and consistant power.. this is what they should use in the kit!! then everyone would have it I am going to have fun tonight! I got the motor and pinions from Tower hobbies and I will let you know on the packs, Don't remember off the top so I will get back to ya. Jeff.
