Hi,i have a Hummingbird and am running hornet carbon blades, speed 300 motor and a 2cell 1200mah Kokam pack!

Any suggestions on what motor pinion to run?

Regards Les

I have heard of people running either a 9t or 11t pinion for that setup..I cant say for sure until this Friday... Jeff.

Cheers, will you let me no your opinion,i have tried 8t - 10t,obviously the higher tooth i go i get more revs but also need more gyro gain to compensate for the extra torque bein produced by the bigger pinion. I have not tried the 8t with the kokams but i guess ill get longer flight times but ultimatley less power?????

it would be the lower the pinion the less rpm on the head through the main gear but less amper draw from the motor, I would think you would need a 11 tooth pinion to increase the head speed and then increase the gain or trim / revo settings to combat the extra torque or buy a upgrade motor for the tail and maybe use the upgrade tail motor with a 3x2 prop direct drive eliminating the main gear on the tail....just a thought. I get to learn this electric stuff too sure is cool though!!! Jeff.

i thought that with the hummingboard you did not have to use any revo,i have a fitaba 9ch transmitter but i was advised to turn off all my mixing settings! Is this correct?

I have read that some people are, I have not used it due to the lack of power from my bird, that’s why I ordered the mods. what gyro are you running on it? I know on the HH gyros you don’t want any revo mixing but you do on the non HH gyros. When my pack is fully charged It will lift off and fly for 30 sec then it slowly fades back down to a 1" hover. During that 30 sec. any aggressive throttle change causes the tail to whip around so it needs it in there. My parts will be here today, I will install them and let you know. Jeff.

Don't get me all mixed up....I think you guys mean" the smaller main motor pinion the faster RPMs - shorter flying times and the bigger pinion the slower RPMs - longer flying times...." Correct ? My stock motor burned out after a couple days of flying....I ordered Orion Micro Modified....should be in today. Can't wait.

On the driven pinion on the motor the higher the tooth count on that pinion the higher the RPM's will be on the head as you are getting it closer to a 1:1 ratio in turn would cause it to draw more amps to keep the rpm with the blades , ( I am going to figure out the ratio on a stock 10 tooth pinion ) The smaller the pinion is on the motor the higher the ratio is causing the main to turn slower and draw less amps on a load. Jeff.

Sodflyer,

There must be something wrong with your bird!

Even on the speed 300 motor with stock battery i am getting a good five minutes of hovering at different speeds and heights!

yeah there is something wrong, I cycled the batteries quite a few times at a low setting with my triton charger and all get is 30 sec to maybe a min of flight time...all should be fine tonight Jeff.
