Hi all....I am looking for some Canadian mail order sites that carry heli supplies. I have been to www.greathobbies.com and hobbyhobby.com

What about some U.S.A. mail order sites. If you live in Canada and have mail ordered from the U.S. then could you recommend some of these sites.

Thanks

Heli's in the Great White North

GreatHobbies is the principle mail order house in Canada.

You can also try Norburn Hobbies here in BC and Leisuretech as well.

The Gray's also have a shop in Ontario but I forget the name.

As a rule I order all my stuff from the US, Asia or the UK.

There is no longer any duty, but you will pay a horrendous exchange and GST and possibly PST.

I recommend,

Rick's RC in Texas
Heliproz in Montana
Helihut in Hawaii
Cyberheli in Hong Kong
Skyline in the UK

I have dealt with all of the above with great results!

Mail Order sites?

I just placed an order at Rick's today in fact, it has already been mentioned, the Gray's shop is called "Flight Craft" and is located in Kitchener Ontario, nice people to deal with.
BTW, as far as service goes, about a 1/2 hr. after I placed my (on line) order at Rick's Doug called me to ask about a part # I had requested, turns out I had transposed one # and I would have recieved a mail box full of 20 flybar weights!
Good eye Doug-thanks He set me up with the right # and if that's not good service then I'm no judge of service. You can't go wrong with a place like that.

I mainly deal with Great Hobbies myself. I find their prices to be the lowest compared to any LHS and having to pay only one tax helps out alot. Only problem is if your in a rush and they don't have stock of what you want it can take a couple weeks while they order them in. I was also put onto "Flight Craft" in Kitchener by another RR member so I gave them a call and prices there were competitive. They also have their own line of carbon fiber products under the name SG Products which are nice and good prices. I have ordered from Rick's once last week but yet so here about my order.
No news is good news I hope.

When did they stop charging duty on imported hobbies accessiores to Canada? I have been avoiding buying from outside Canada as much as possible because of duties. Damn government always with two hands in your wallet.

Mail Orders?

Ya, those customs bone heads nailed me a $5 "handling fee" on my last order that I recieved! They didn't open it or disturb it any other way), I guess they just "touched" it; cha-ching, $5. please!

One thing to resist with all your might is the option of shipping UPS ground. They will hijack your shipment and hold it until you cough up a CC# for a hefty, ripoff "brokerage fee".

USPS Priority Mail is a good option. It transfers to Purolator Courier up here,

My favourite is simple USPS insured airmail. You will have to pay GST on any shipment valued over $20 (or something) and then Canada Post charges a $5.00 fee for doing the collection

Cheers!

Cheers!

You've got that right E-gpeden. Been there, done that, never again.

"Just say No to UPS shipping to Canada!!" Man they rip you off for sure. You can never get away from paying some taxes but "brokerage fees", come on, give me a break.

USPS insured all the way.

Yo Beezer,

We stopped paying duty in the late eighties/ early nineties sometime.

Yup I'll say it. UPS are BASTARDS! And I'm being polite.

USPS is the only way to ship from the US to Canada. Yeah they charge a $5 brokerage fee but it beats the $50+ brokerage fee I had to pay UPS to get my radio back from radio south after servicing.

The fee is based on the value of the package not the work done. So you declare your $1000 radio system as $1000 for insurance purposes and they base the brokerage on that. Mother F&%$#@'s

That was two years ago and it still burns my ass.

Mail orders?

Blair, you must not have much of an ass left if it's been on fire for two years! I agree 110% with your comments about UPS to Canada -----JUST SAY NO! The fees they get away with border on criminal, Priority mail works the best for me, I don't need to get stuff ASAP and it's very resonable, it even comes by Purolator sometimes.
