It's the whole "Heli-Zen" thing. Even Yogi masters can't achieve it every time they try.

On the rare occasions I get 2 days in a row to fly, if my first day was great, my next will be...not so stellar. Perhaps subconsciously we know that was a hard act to follow, and the lizard brain just doesm't want to try.

Slider, I think your suggestion is WELL worth investigating, but I believe the issue is more Jungian than Freudian.

The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.

I apreciate all the replies. Not exactly what I was expecting, but much more entertaining.

BOB WHO Get regular exercise. The better I feel, the better I fly.

Bob, I think you nailed it. At least for me, that has been missing. I had foot injury a while ago and haven't be exercising as much as I used to. Blood pressure is above normal for the first time in my life. I went to the gym tonight and will continue to do so as much as can. Anything to improve my flying.

Good for you Gregor! You won't regret it. And the fringe benefits, like living longer and feeling great again, make it a win win deal. I glad you have your priorities straight though. We'll do almost anything to fly better, even something that's actually good for us!

There is no doubt that staying fit helps my heli flying skills, along with many other things in my life. If you don't mind, I'll share my little story with you all. Five years ago, I weighed in at 240 lbs. on my 6 ft. frame, 40 in. waist, 34% body fat, on blood pressure and cholesteral medication and I had a one-pack a day cigarette habit. I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I started a workout program and changed my nutrition drastically.

Today, I weigh in at 185 lbs, 10% body fat, 31 in. waist and I no longer take blood pressure or cholesterol medication. I have also kicked the cigarette habit, as well. How did I do it? Really nothing special...just busting my ass in the gym (3-days intense cardio and 2-3 days weight training per week) and eating well.

Not to be bragging, but frequently I get compliments and questions from people wanting to know how I stay so fit at 45 years of age . Of course, that makes me feel awesome, which helps in keeping my mind fit, as well .

Thanks for sharing Racin. It seems like it always comes back to this, there are no shortcuts. Diet and exercise. Back to the basics, just like helicopters.

I'm glad that my flying suffers when I'm not in shape. One more reason to do the right thing. As I tell my kids when they want to have candy right before a meal; you might enjoy the candy, but your body won't let you get away with it.

Make a promise to yourself; try a manageable exercise program for 30 days. Then evaluate your flying skills then compared to now. I'll bet there's a difference. Another simple fact that most people forget is that men need at least 3 liters (13 cups) of fluids every day. If you do not consume at least that much you may feel tired, have muscle weakness or soreness, headaches. Sound familiar? Then you're dehydrated. Almost nobody drinks as much water as they need daily. Don't mean to preach gentlemen, just sharing some health facts that I had learned, forgot, then relearned. What a difference.
