Some days I feel invincable, when I fly Other days I'm working at it, but still trying new stuff and flying confidently. Then there are days when as soon as I take off, I feel like about to dumb thumb it into the ground. Its those days that I stick to the stuff I'm very solid on, or land. I've been trying to figure out what makes the difference between feeling very connected and feeling disconnected from the heli. Here's list of things I've found that contribute to that feeling of disconnect-ness

  • Over stressed
  • Tired
  • Too much or too little caffeine
  • Mad
  • Too cold
  • Too much adrenaline

But today, none of those things applied to me. Today, I've felt better than I have in about a week and yet, I was much more disconnected to the heli than I felt yesterday.

I'm wondering if there is something I've missed. Something else that is contributing. When I have a day like this, it seems that the only solution is to try again tomorrow. I hate having charged batteries, functional helis, good weather and not being able to enjoy it.

I might try some B12. I'm not a fan of energy drinks, mostly because I prefer to get my caffeine from the bean. Plus they seem to make me a little queezy for some reason. Any other tips?

Get regular exercise. The better I feel, the better I fly.

I think it comes in stages. Youll get passed it. You probably need to take a couple of days off. The brain may be a little tired. Good luck

Gregor, It is absolutley a real thing-- some days you got it-- some days you don't. It may involve some of the things you listed or maybe something unexplainable. Mark, Ken and I will VERY often say-- I just don't have it today. It's real-- if you don't have it on that day just relax and don't push it or a crash is sure to follow Exercise certainly couldn't hurt, Bob I could use more of it myself

Gregor I know exactly what you mean. Saturday was chilly, breezy and sprinkling on and off. I went out and flew 5 flights with no problems even with the windy conditions. Sunday it was absolutely beautiful out and no wind, I struggled to get one flight in and put the heli away. I just wasn't connected to it at all, so rather than risk a dumb thumb I stopped flying.... If I could figure it out I would know which days to fly and which days to work on the honey doo list...
I have thought about all of your factors listed above but it's something much deeper inside I think... I just don't know what it is.

I think there are 2 parts to feeling disconnected, lack of concentration and lack of fine motor skills. Many times you can get away without one or the other but some days when both are missing, you are best to leave the heli at home. I find that caffeine sharpens my senses but also makes me subject to adrenaline rushes. I find that I fly better after I have had some. As for fine motor skills, that could be from anything from lack of activity to a lacking diet. I also find that I fly better by myself. Even having my friends nearby causes enough distraction to limit me. Regardless of the reasons I am finding that I have less and les of those days as time goes on. Maybe my skills are better and maybe I am just in a better place mentally now when I fly. Oh and one other things that did wonders for my heli flying and that was takign a break and flying a plane for a week and a half. My first flight on the Rex after that was amazing. Maybe a break is good once in a while?
