Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Need help tuning os 61wc

My os 61wc has some unusual idle characteristics that I hope someone can help me with.

With the engine started, I can set my trim for a nice fast and smooth(clutch not engaging though) idle. The engine will purr along for say 10-15 sec and then as if someone flipped a switch, it drops into a very low speed, chugging, almost gonna die idle. The engine will chug along for 5-10 sec and then again like flipping a switch, it goes back to the fast smooth idle. This will continue until I either rev up and take off or it dies.

The motor is new (third gal). I have the main needle tuned so that while hovering it 2 stokes about 75% of the time with intermitent 4 cycling. I'm using Wildcat 15%. I am sure that the motor has never seen even 75% throttle nor been run lean.

I'd bet its a simple fix, but this is my first experience with a three needle carb, and I don't want to get it too far out of whack with my still ignorant fiddling.

Thanks

I had one also on my freya, try this close the mid-range, from close position to 1/2 turn the fuel air mixture.. 1 1/2 turn for high speed.. it works for me...

happy flying..

OS 61

These are the words of Curtis Y. Once you have the engine broken in (2 gallons) set the mid needle to 1/4 and treat it as a 2 needle carb. I am using the MP and have my settings at low needle 2 1/4 turns mid needle 1/4 turn high needle at about 1 1/2 to 1 2/3 turns +- ><. there are only two reasons for a 61 to run (or not) poorly. 1=glow plug 2=fuel. It sounds like you are having a fuel delivery problem. Look at the fuel lines and make sure the carb on the engine is secured properly. If any air can leak between the carb and the crank (or into the back plate) it can cause an erratic run. Pressure test the fuel tank to see that it can hold pressure.

Hope this helps
