Crashes will depend on the Heli and person, Everyone has a different learning rate and skills. Over all what really makes a difference is Sim Time.

3 crashes in the last 542 flights. If you haven't done this already, start with RADDs.

I crashed a lot when I was learning. Still learning and crashing. Not as much crashing as 6mo ago.

I crashed 8 times before I could hover. My problem was that I wanted to run before I could walk. I made some training gear out of 3/16 dowel rods and foam practice golf balls. They are about 2 ft long.
The added length really helped to save my blades.

Getting the tail setup properly was my biggest challenge and when I did, it made everything that much easier.

15 crashes in the 11 months I've been flying, but i'm always pushing myself to learn something new. Most of my crashes were simple blade srikes and usually only resulted in replacing the blades.

It doesn't take me anytime to fix the King now

With some training gear, calm days and lots of patience you will not crash. Go faster and you will. I had one crash before I could hover ... actually I could kind of hover before I crashed but I was all over. The better way to say it is that I have one crash before I could hover a whole pack. Since then I have had 9 crashes in 482 flights. Several were just dumb crashes from setup issues and me not using training gear. Lets just say I am huge fan of training gear. It has currently been 132 flights since my last crash, a wide open nose firster from 40ft up after a failed back flip.

Alot !!! On the SIM at least a gazzelion. On my 450 , 100's. On my gasser 4. (But then I didn't fly the gasser until I sort of knew what the hill I was doing.)

I crash my 450(if it is flying) at least once a week.

I had a lot of trouble until I figured out that my gyro was crapped out. Once I put on a gyro that worked I was able to hover, bounce, hover, bounce. if you go to my youtube vids at the begining you can see the lack of control from the gyro issue, and then after the gyro worked.

But even once I got the tail locked down good enough for the hovering, I still pushed it too much and crashed way too often. That is my style though, no patience, wanted it yesterday, hey lets try this. that kind of stuff.

Now my neighbor went from the blade cx2 to the 400 and he is VERY cautious. He has had only a couple of minor crashes and is hovering fairly well.

So take it for what its worth. It depends on your pocket book, patience(sp?), time on the sticks, aggressiveness. They are all variables in crash vs flight time. And EVERYONE is different. You just have to find what works for you.

This is not a team sport, its just you and the machine.

Absolutely Triple B Lately I agree with everything you say My friend Mark and I started at the same time with helis and he has crashed less than me, however I am a better pilot than he is--- I take more chances- he is more conservative-- everybody is a little different. Let me also say it if you are TOO conservative you can get stuck in a rut so to speak and not make any progress at all and keep flying in SAFE MODE. Which is fine for some as well, but it will get boring sooner or later or maybe not

No way doug, I don't believe that. I have seen your videos and you don't take chances at all! Yup nothing but slow flying, at safe distances and you never put your equipment in danger.

Sarcasm TJ But for real Dudes--- There is no escaping the first 3 to 6 months of trying, fixin, flying, swearing, tryan whoops I mean trying and ect. Most will quit before to long --probably 70 percent But those who stick with it have a chance at "Heli-Zen" or "Heli-creaminess"

and let me add .... Oh boy here goes Dougie Its all Baby steps Kp ! Its one of those things that looks easier than it is. If you have a "never give up" attitude, we will be hearing of your progress 6 months from now-- if not-- you will be one of the many that have come and gone. I for one hope you stick with it , it really is the coolest hobby in the world
