Hi

Been knocking round these parts a while, finally got the time to sort out my camera rig, I haven't quite finished yet but will post pictures as soon as I do.

The main query is I have a JR 3810 radio (8310 US) and a PCM 649 rx

I also run a GV1.(Could be disabled or setting functions reduced)

Whats the best setup for taking pics, i.e. what would YOU use to activate the shutter etc on the camera, I plan on initially using a simple micro servo.

Camera is a Fuji 6900Z, aauto shut down can be disabled.

Whats the best camera settings to use initially, shall I just try it on the auto setting, or go with shutter priority, initial flights will hopefully be on bright sunny days.

Finally, shall I use manual focus??

Before I go I gotta say all you guys inspire me, however of late, Flyboy, your Calibre shots kill me, Jeff, your lifestyle has got to be the best ever, what with a girl who has a sister with a great house (Love the cinema room) a fabulous part of the world to live in and great photos to boot and finally Pal Rotor, yeehaa UK at last, nice shots you've done recently (And congrats to everyone else I've missed out)

You gotta love this hobby !!!!!!!!!!!

Great Link !!!

Got to get me one of those, have you tried one yet ??

The only problem I can see is my ability to crack open the camera and make the connections, I have no data on the Fuji so no idea about its internal boards etc. Plus, if I use it normally (Out of heli rig) I end up with a dangly wire

Hi Lee,

Not one, get two.

I have one of these (oops - Paypal! I lost patience when it failed to let me edit the quantitity to two) and, yes it's a remote switch, a good one, no surprises at all. I also have two nasty expensive e-switches from EMS Jomar that can't cope with the RF noise from my Logo 20.

I have never liked the idea of a servo-pusher, dunno, you jump through hoops to get the vibration out of your rig, then at the crucial moment of taking a photo you stuff a buzzing servo down the shutter release - as a matter of principle it seems like a waste to me, that's why I've gone to extremes to use electronic triggers like this one. Don't get me wrong, there are others that use servo pushers very successfully.

Distilled to it's basics just about any digicam will be triggered in two stages by connecting one and then two conductors to a common "ground". That means you need two e-switches with diffrent trigger-points on a single RX to connect "activate" and then "fire" back to "common". The trigger points on this e-switch are programable.

As you correctly mention, the biggest "fear factor" is dismantling your expensive camera. My Sony DSC P9 was a serious pain in this regard, I got nuked twice by the flash capacitor with this camera in bits (no manual flash trigger to discharge it and too awkward to avoid getting my finger in the wrong place) then the switch turned out to be multi-function with all connectors (9 or so) on a single ribbon cable and the solder connectons practically microscopic. Eventually I cracked it by gluing 3 single strands of copper wire top and bottom of 3 appropriate tracks of the mainswitch ribbon cable (identified with a multi tester) and re-inserting the modified ribbon cable into the connector. I could then solder the strands to more substantial insulated wires and take those out to an external connector via 3 small drill-holes in the case. I'm sure if I cared enough I could find a really neat little 3-way plug that could be hidden completely behind the charger/USB cover - but as it stands I'm thrilled enough that it works not to mind the futaba connector sticking out an inch or so on wires next to the mini-USB.

I guess you have to be crazy to follow the above "advice". Hopefully as the digicam market matures external triggering jacks will become more commonplace.

Cheers,

Yeeha UK! - I like that, maybe I'll ask Mark to edit my username.
