I was out at the local flying field this morning flying the Rex and watching mfcrash fly the trainer. I was feeling pretty confident and was flying hard, fast and overall very aggressively. Mostly I was flying fast banked figure-8s. One time I flew left fast and gained about 60ft of elevation. As it climbed and slowed, I turned it and came back down fast, gathering more and more and more speed. It must have been going 60mph when it passed me about 10ft up. I kept the speed and banked it hard. I banked it hard left and I found that it going fast enough that pure elevator input resulted in a big wide banked turn. The heli was nearly 90* to the ground though the turn but it was not very sharp. So I did it again and again and finally figured out how to tighten the turn, increase collective as I entered the turn. After a few more I had it down and the last one I did was freaking awesome. The Rex was going to fast that I had to give nearly full collective to keep it on path. The sound it made from nearly 100ft away was sweet! Rotors beating at the air and motor straining as hard, The poor little Rex was literally pushed to the edge of its capabilities and it pulled it off with style. I just wish I had a way of knowing just how fast it was traveling. Anyhow poor Outrage 30C battery took a beating on that flight and came out warm, even with the 45F air temp. I can see why the 3D guys crave high end batteries

Oh and I have the Align 600 gyro on it and it is working great! It was a great day of flying even with the 10mph winds.

I had a similar experience a couple weeks ago when I took the T500 to a field for the first time. I've been doing steeply banked figure eights in the backyard with it, but at relatively low speeds. With a little more room the T500 really could stretch its legs, more than once I had nervous the sense that I was flying way too fast. On more than one occassion my way of slowing down was to bank it hard into a turn and pull back on the elev. That's tipped up 90 degrees to the ground and pulled hard all the way around. I never got comfortable enough with it to tighten it up. That's a big rush when you are flying like that.

Very nice TJ. If you can hold the 90 degree turn long enough, you could get a full circle out of it. Might be a little tough to keep altitude though.

As of today I have a new goal. I want to fly fff banked circles in front of me. I see the pros do it all the time. Well they all do it inverted and backwards ... Like this guy at 27secs

Anyhow I can do about 2/3s of one right now but it is extremely hard for me to maintain forward speed when it comes around nose-in. I always pull back a little too hard and end up flying around in a big rising spiral with a stalled hover at the top. More practice is needed.

Tjin,

That is exactly what I was doing too. For me i just kept paying attention to how I was moving the sticks during the other 2/3rds of the circle and just tried to keep it the same way as it came around. Then you just have to have a little bit of trust in you and your heli as it comes around. It is only for a split second that it will seem like it is "out of control" but if you keep the sticks smooth like the first part of the circle it will pull around nice and smooth.

Mostly as you know, its just a matter of stick time and keep trying. You definately know your orientations and should be able to recover in a bailout.

Now as for getting low and tight, man, I havent even tried to go there yet. But even pulling nice fast circle up a little bit is such a rush. I know exactly where you are coming from with the sound of the blades on fast hard banks. That is my favorite thing to do with the heli. ( as my vids show).

Anyway, keep up the progression Chris.

P.s., how did that deck ever turn out?

Well I just got back from running 3 packs. Today I was just not feeling "connected" to the heli but it went fine. I am getting more and more loose at 50-75ft up, so I am starting to feel like I can do anything. Today I spent most of the time on ff and fff flight but I started mixing circles and piros in here and there. I just need to see the heli leave my comfortable orientations more often.

Now to a mini-rant. I have to say I am not happy with my Outrage packs. I have a pair of the 30C packs that were mislabeled as 25C but they are just not performing like they should. About 4-5min into my 7min flight (7min uses about 1500-1600 of the 2200 pack) I can feel a big loss of power. I am really noticing it when I am flying fff and want to do something that requires a more collective. I can head the motor struggling and the head speed drop. This does not happen with my PPRC 25C pack. Anyhow they have about 35 cycles each on them and now every time I run 7min, they come off pretty warm and slightly puffed. They do shrink back down when they charge but come on, these are top of the line Outrage packs!!! Lets just say I won't be buying from them again. I may as well run Mega Power at half the cost

---
The sad state of lumber these days took a toll on the deck build but it is done and is very functional. Did you know that each of the 5/4" x 16" PT decking boards shrunk about 3/4" width wise and 1/2" length wise!!! How are you supposed to build a deck with lumber that is a different size after it dries?!?! Anyhow it is finished and it did turn out fine except for the nearly 1/2" gaps between the boards. If I had a pic I would show you but I don't think I do.

Sorry to hear about the Outrage packs Chris. I have over 80 cycles on each of my 3 2200 Outrage packs and they still perform like new. Come off the heli less than 100F. I rarely discharge them below 20% and never leave them fully charge for more than a week. What are the IR numbers showing for the Outrage packs?
