Guys,

Sorry for the off topic post. But as I recall there are few RC car/truck owners here. I want to get my son (8) a car or truck for Xmas and am looking for recommedations, budget is about $100. I already have nice nicad/nimh charger from my race days. I was looking at this one

Comments? Any others I should look at?

If you need a RTR kit then I would recommend the Associated 1/18 stuff. That is a tiny bit over your $100 budget but they are great fun and super tough.

Thanks Chris, I'll check it out. I still have an RC10 bought and raced in the 80s. Love that Team Associated stuff.

I always wanted a RC10 but I never got one. I always ended up getting something 4wd including a Kyosho rally car and HPI RS4 stadium truck. Then a few years back I got the bug again and grabbed a RC18B. What a great little car! Almost too fast for its own good and handled great. Has a crappy steering setup on it but there are a few mods to fix that including using an HS65MG servo and forgoing the servo saver. Then the heli stuff started and I haven't touched it since.

Just recently I was thinking about how much I had in my highly upgraded on-road car and comparing it the cost of my stock T500. Its about the same. The main differences are the ongoing costs for my cars were higher. When I was racing dirt it was about $200 a month, which is one of the main reasons I stopped. On-road is cheaper, but still costs more than helis as long as you:

A) Get the right heli to start with
B) Control your upgrade addition
C) Don't crash

My Baja is pretty tough and its powerful and heavy but stock parts are pretty tough. Then you have to upgrade the shock shafts $50, Drive shafts $40. RPM A-Arms $25each, Tires $50 a set for rears. Main Frame cost $75, and other plastics parts that broke. Hopefully its tough enough, will find out this Saturday go bash around at local BMX track.

Oh yeah, also batteries, ESC's Motors are a lot cheaper on Heli too. I'm looking for Electric 4WD that will take 3S1P HBK2 batteries, that way I don't need to buy more batteries.
