Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > need help with webra 35 engine adj.

I have a webra 35 wich I'm needing someone to answer a couple of questions on.

Q: When adjusting the high setting on the engine, the setting is about 1/2 to 3/4 turns out. This seems to me that it's not enough. Does anyone know if this is right? I bought the engine used from someone so I'm not sure how much break-in it has on it. I have played around with the adjustment and need to make sure I'm doing it right. I have had the engine quit on me, and because my autos still need work, it's cost me some $$$.
If anyone has the answer I would be very greatful.

Someone also told me not to run more than 15% fuel in this engine. Is this right?

The engine setting at 1/2 to 3/4 turn on the high setting smokes alot. I am running 20% in it right now and if I need to change it then I will do so. I just need someones expert advice before I flame-out another one and test out Newtons law of gravity again.

The low end needle on the Webra 35 (non Red Head) adjusts the mixture to about 2/3 throttle. This includes hover throttle. The high end needle controls the top end of the mixture.

On set up, first start out with both needles fairly rich. I do not remember the initial needle settings. You can start with the high needle around 2 turns open, open the throttle barrel untill there is a slit of an opening, put a length of fuel tubing on the fuel nipple and then close down (not seat down!) on the low needle and start to open it untill you can hear air blowing through and then open it a couple of clicks further. This should get you going .
If I remember correctly, I did wind up with the top end only about 1/2 turn open when I first started to mess with the engine. I reset the carb as above and then the needles returned to a reasonable opening.

I personally would not use more than 15% nitro in this engine. If you need the high power out of it, use a tuned pipe and low nitro, it works great!

BIGRCR,
Thank you for your suggestions

"put a length of fuel tubing on the fuel nipple and then close down (not seat down!) "

I'm not sure what you mean by (not seat down!)....

"hear air blowing through and then open it a couple of clicks further"

You are talking about the low needle, because i don't remember hearing clicks while turning it.

When you said a "needles returned to a reasonable opening. "
what is reasonable, 1 to 2 turn or more?

Thank you again

"not seat down" means not to crank down on the needle against it's seating and damage the seat and/or needle. In the case of the low needle on the Webra about 3/16 of an inch below the surface of the throttle barrel is in far enough (this needle does not really seat (because in actuality it is not even a needle but a tapered "tube" that the end of the main needle goes into)).

Forgive me, "a couple of clicks" is only figurative, you're right, the low end needle does not click.
A reasonable setting for the Webra is around 1 1/4 to 2 turns open (it depends on many factors) on the top. The bottom needle "face" will run just below the surface of the barrel body (seen with the throttle extension off) or set as described by blowing into the tubing while the barrel is rotated open to a slit opening.

I hope this helps! or e-mail me @ BIGRCR@ netzero.net

Bigrcr ,
I think I understand.....

I will try all your suggestions this week when I get time after work. I have been told that the Webra is a great running engine after it's dialed in. I'm looking forward to something that’s dependable. The TT36 has not been that reassuring for me. The only crashes I have has as of the two years flying is the dumb engine quitting on me three times. Each time as cost me over $100. It would of been more cost savings to have bought a OS. However now that I have the Webra, I’m going to see how it performs. I did however have the webra engine go out on me once but for some reason the only damage to the raptor was the landing gear. I'm 100% sure it's because of the fuel nitro % and needle setting I was using.

I'll email you directly if I have anymore problems after I adjust it to your recommendations.

Again thank you very much.
