Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Fury flybar weights?

Well, I am almost finished with the Fury. The canopy is painted and I am just waiting for the 9252's and the V-Blades to come in. Now I have time to think (oh no more money). Anyway, I was just wondering how many Fury fliers if any are using flybar weights or felt the need to use them.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

I don't use any flybar weights on my Fury and I like the way it flys, nice and smooth for me. However, Jason Krause did recommended that I use three shims on each side, a total of six for the head dampning using 700mm blades. He was able to fly my Fury this past weekend at RonLund's Funfly. I already had the two shims on both sides but it needed another one. It made a difference in the way it tracked through some maneuvers. Since I did not have an extra shim, Jason gave me a thick shim to use and just add one thin shim. The thick shims will be used on the Fury Extreme.

It will depend on what you want from your Fury. You might try it both ways and see what feels good to you.

I do not use flybar weights and the cyclic isn't too twitchy. Certainly not like everybody was making it out to be. With 20% expo I am really getting used to the feel of CCPM and the helicopter. I run my Raptor 30 with about 5% expo and the cyclic feels about like the Fury. As far as smoothness, the expo really helped a lot without the use of flybar weights.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just buy a set. After all, I can use them on another machine if I don't like them on the Fury. BTW, I already have 2 shims on each side of the head. I have to get another set to make 3/side. I guess it can't hurt right?

I have about 20-25% expo dialed in and that took out some of the touchiness in hover. It works pretty good for me.

I use 3 thick shims per side, the 20 gram paddles,no flybar weights and 680 Rotorsports and my Furys are as smooth as silk. The Fury is never touchy at any throw of cyclic and do not wobble in a hover. It will groove like a FAI machine but go to high rate and it will rock and roll with NO signs of being touchy.

In my opinion the flybar weights are totally unneccesary, even with the 20 gram paddles. If you personally feel the cyclic is sensitive, use the 27 gram (black 3D paddles) instead (these are stock on the ST).

Not weights for me(so far)....

Alex,

I am fairly new to helis. Have a R30 and I'm doing nose in and a little FF just to let you know where my experience is.

I maidened my Fury 60 Expert at Ron's funfly this weekend. I have the 680 CF Rotorsports, SAB 95mm tailblades, and the stock shim setup in the head. On the maiden flight I wanted to see how "twitchy" these 3D paddles really were so I set the radio with 0 expo. On the first flight I was amazed at how stable it was in a hover on the cyclic. To me it floats compared to the my Raptor with 20 expo. It was a little windy Saturday and the Fury with those paddles was stable.

Forward flight felt about the same as the Raptor so all in all the stock paddles seemed fine with the stock shims. I will fly it awhile and then add some additional shims to tighten the feel up if necessary.

But, I am not pushing it real hard like some of you 3D studs! Maybe someday!

BTW, Jtag your bird looked real sharp at the funfly!!

Putting the extra shims in makes the cyclic more responsive.

Enertia weights on the flybar dampen the response of the flybar. set your D/R to about 25% and you will get about the same feel.
