Hi, I am wondering what other pilots are getting for their
hover amps?

If any of you have had the chance to measure your hover amps
like with a green tree logger please post your findings here.

This will allow me to compare some math to some real world figures.

I need to have all this information besides your hover amps.

1. Main rotor blade size.
2. Main rotor RPM.
3. Motor KV and model.
4. Battery Pack 4S, 5S, 6S, ect
5. Total helicopter weight.
6. Hover amps.

What I am trying to do is to find the average amount of power
(watts) it requires to hover a given amount of weight.

Thank you for your information.

I fly and then I fly some more.

I would do a graph for you but the weather here is terrible at the moment. Previous experience on a 30size electric (not the logo500)has given me a figure of about 65watts per pound.

EDIT: With a very sedate headspeed 1650rpm. 80watts per pound is a good starting point. I will try to get you a more exact figure this weekend if you need it. I presume its the logo500 you want?

Regards

Fergus

Fergus,

Please by all means post your information when your weather is better.

Logo 500 is fine. But being my heli is a logo 20, about equal to a logo 600.

Right now I am getting 37 amps with a 4S pack @ 89 percent throttle.
Running at 1800 rotor speed, I can't go below 1700 rpm I have to stay above.

I have several motors to play with:
A40 12S 1350kv 12 pinon (Used in the above test)
A40 8L 1300kv 12 pinon
A40 10L Electric Turbine 1100kv using a 15 pinon.
C50 13XL 1250kv 12 pinon.
Scorpion 4020 1390kv 12 pinon.

I need a little more ESC headroom, it comes out my logo 20 needs
to consume 550 watts to hover 9.25 pounds.

Your 65 watts a pound is pretty accurate.

I fly and then I fly some more.

You are running a Logo 20 on 4s????

Yes. 14.8v 14.8 amp/hr.

Only because I got the logo long time ago, and the packs recommended,
were TP-8000 4S4P.

I'm using outrage packs now, I can series the packs for 8S 7400ma,
and I plan to test that configuration.

I think I can fit 6S 12 amp/hr onto the heli, i'm trying to get
the longest flight time which right now is 20 minutes, and the battery is 21% left.

I fly and then I fly some more.

Here is a graph for you from my Logo600 with just hovering. Heli weight is 3.7kg. Its just a few minutes as it was blowing a gail here and bloody cold.

I have the headspeed down lower than usual to mimic what you are after (65% on the Jive80 HV with a scorpion 4025-630kv)

Hope it helps

EDIT: Watts per pound seem kind of high to me. I will bring the headspeed up and check again for my own curiosity. Might put the heli on the scales again as well to be sure

Thanks everyone.

I settled on a actro 24/3 and wired my 2 4s2p packs in series for 8S.
Works good, lots of power will do hover tests to check flight time.

Now I am going to have a few motors to sell, this gets kinda expensive when you have to fool around and test to get what you want.

A40 12S
A40 8L
A40 10L ET
4020 1390
C50 13XL

I fly and then I fly some more.
