e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > A little po'ed at my hummer right now...

I bought a hummer from a guy here on RR, the heli was fine...however I had the problem of not being able to lift out of ground effect untill this morning. Then it was a blast!!! flying around inside the house a 6' was cool! now the problem was the motor was getting hot and the packs did not last long at all 3-4 min max! with balanced blades, paddles equal everything. So his afternoon I bought a speed 300 motor for it and installed it in the hummer. the aleron servo wigged out at 1/2 throttle even with the caps on it but even still it did not get 1" off the ground, I had the same battery and pinion on it. I took that off and re-installed the stock motor and Im still getting the same thing 1-2" off of the ground max! WTH? whats going on here? everything is the same as it was this mornig... Im at a loss and rather p.o.ed at the heli at the moment. Another question.... what motor / pack is needed for good performance up here at 80,000 feet? tweaked the blades, checked for tight gears, freshly charged pack, flybar paddles cant be any closer to alignment... etc... what gives? thought electrics were the way to go...might have to go back to glow power............Jeff.

I don't think any motor will fly it at 80,000 ft. :-)

yeah I know I read that some people have no problems at sea level... but would like to know how to power it for Colorado to get the same effect... Jeff.

I bought a Lithium ion 2000 mah battery today, My hobby shop does not carry much but they did have some pricy motors But none looked like they would fit they were in the 75,00 ramge. Just dont know enough about them yet...sill everythig is the same as it was but it's a no go... could it be the pack? they are "the bird seed ones " I checked it when it was doing great and it read 9 vdc....thats when I had to throttle back to keep from hitting the roof..... Greetings

Sodflyer, I had many similar experiences--I mean nightmares!

First off, the most I've gotten out of the Bird Seed packs is about 5 minutes, but I went with LiPoly 1200 E-Techs (2 cell) and I now get 19 minutes on the stock motor! I have also bought an Orion Elite Modified to play with sometime and also got a 9tooth to try on it... Hmm, we'll see..

The HB is very hard to get stable in flight I have found! I have tweaked expos, d/r, travel, trims, played with blade pitch (twisting them,) and the biggest problem I have right now is the tail! It always needs alot of rudder to counteract the force of the main rotor. I may be going separates real soon because I am about fed up with the Hummingboard. I'd LOVE a tail lock gyro on this baby!

I called Century and he told me to flatten out the throttle curve around mid stick or wherever it hovers on your radio and that didn't seem to help! Anyone have any good ideas?

10 vdc?

Found out alittle more about what's going on....It will fly great if the packs are at 10Vdc after a charge...for about 2 min, then it starts to loose head speed and wont go up... just hover in ground effect, I took a reading at the pack and it's showing 9 vdc. what are you're packs reading at ? what voltage is you're pack at when it wont pick out of ground effect? the motor is also drawing 2.4 amps at full speed. Thanks Jeff.
