e-Align T-REX 250-450-500-600 > T-REX 600 final stages of buid - pinion for Scorpion 890 - please help!

I stopped by my lhs to pickup pinion for my 890 and ran into a problem. The 600 pinions weren't available in 14T
and didn't seem to fit the scorpion shaft, they were too big an inner diameter
. They only had a 13 and 15T as well.

They told me to use a 500 pinion, which also weren't avaiable in a 14T. Go figure!

So the guy calc'd my hs @ 8s and said the 13T would give me 2100-2200rpm.

My friend that's building my 600 says the teeth are
Different on the 600 main gear and the 500 pinion and says we shouldn't use it.

What should I do?

Thanks gentlemen,

Helisonmymind

Check Tower Hobbies and Ready Heli, for 14T, Mod 0.7, 5mm shaft. At Tower, also check the pinion for cars.

Hear are some 14t pinions that will work on your T600 with a Scorpion motor (5mm shaft).

what are my options?

thanks Ben.

ReadyHeli is out of stock.

fxaeromodels.com has it I believe but there's no contact number. Does anyone know where they are located?
I hate when a company hides their contact number and email addresses behind a HTML form...

So, here's how I see it. I can:

1) check if scorp makes a 6mm shaft for the 890

2) try the stock 1220KV 650L motor on 8S and calc the correct pinion? 9 or 10T? I believe my Spur gear is 170T (does the 600ESP use the same spur?)

at 3.9V per cell, 8S:

9T = 2013 rpm
10T = 2238 rpm

3) wait to get a 14T 0.7 mod 5mm pinion from the states

It's always something, isn't it?

fxaeromodels.com is in California. I have ordered from them many times and they are a very good company with same day shipping. When you add an item to the cart it will tell you if it’s in stock.

The Rhino pinions are a pain as they have a ridge on the top inside that prevents them from sliding low enough on the shaft. You can always remove this but when they say hardened they mean hardened!

Mikado makes some nice M0.7 5mm pinions and the MIK30xx series is in stock at ReadyHeli (replace xx with # of teeth).

I don't know what headspeed calc was used but according to mine a 14T will only give you about 1950 @ nominal voltage (3.7V / Cell). Or did you use 4.2V / Cell? On my T-Rex 600 I use a 16T for a governed headspeed of 2250. 15T did not have enough headroom to maintain this under load.

Better to order some different sizes and start experimenting.

I run a 14 tooth on my 8s Scorpion 890. Works perfect.
Here is where I bought my pinion. Looks like they have 2 in stock but when I ordered from them I ordered several pinions that showed in stock and the 15 tooth was not in stock. May want to call first.
Hope this works for you.

Hen,

I calc'd at 3.9V per cell. Maybe that's a bit high?

Modulus different on 600ESP?!

guys check this out:

●Use for 650L brushless motor. ●Motor pinion gear 16T x 1
●Modulus: 0.6 <--- isn't this what the 500 uses? it's a 0.6 mod pinion as well
●Shaft Diameter:Φ6mm
●Weight:4.1g/pc

Don't tell me the gear pitch has been changed for the 600ESP, has it????

I'm already set to order the 15T 0.7 modulas 5mm and now I see they're using a 0.6 modulus for the new motor pinion which must mean the spur is also different.

What should I do? Change the spur back to the old one?

Can someone please shed some light as I'm really not sure...

Thanks a lot!

Stick to what you have. The Bevel Mod .6 gear has thiner teeth and you would have to change the main gear to a Bevel 188T.

my main gear has a different PN in the manual:

600ESP: 50b158-1 Main Gear 170T (in my 600 ESP manual)

600E: H60019 Main Drive Gear/170T (from Align's web shop for 600E)

Maybe the 50b158-1 cross references to the "H" part number. Jeez, they're not making this easy for me.

I think the Bevel gear is supposed to be an up grade. Go to Align Web site and check the up grade parts for the 600.

Heli 770 / Sherm,

Got all my goodies ordered up from Helidirect. My friend building up the 600 says just turning the motor over is impressive, thinks power is going to be "scary!"

Yes, perfect!

Thanks again as always guys, really appreciate the help.

If your main gear is 188T bevel, you need a 16T bevel pinion. One problem you have is Align's 15&16T bevel pinion has a 6mm. bore for the shaft and your motor has a 5mm. shaft.
