Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > Smooth Sticks on a Radio

I've had my Futaba T8UHF radio forever, which means I've never tried another radio.

The stick movement on this radio is not completely smooth. Whenever you cross an X or Y axis, you can feel it...if you know what I mean.

Are all radios like this? My kids have a Playstation 3 and the analog controls on there are very smooth and you don't feel anything when you cross the X and Y axis.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm making an effort to get better (on the Phoenix Sim) and these "bumps" in the sticks are making me notice it in my turns.

Smooth sticks

Don,
What your are "feeling" is the springs "centering" the stick.
Notice that if you move a stick to the right, left, up or down and let it go, it "springs" back to center.
I suppose you could go into the radio and "loosen" the springs by stretching them a little. But this would be experimental to find a good balance of the springs to bring the stick back to center.
Otherwise the stick would not be able to return to a "centered" position relative to servo center.

I believe it is the same on every radio... Even my 14MZ does this. It is so you can feel the center point as Lamar said. The 14MZ has ball bearing sticks and adjustable tension and this fell is always there.

If the wings are travelling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter

I have used several different Futaba and JR radios and they are all the same. In fact I find it quite useful to feel where the centre of each axis is.
