Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Cool Power vs Wild Cat

Well I have been running Cool Power 15% in my Raptor 90. Today I ran out of fuel and remembered that I had some Wild Cat 15% left. So I filled her up and took her out. About 15 seconds after I got into a hover the engine just quit. No sound change or anything, just quit out. I don't really know the difference in the fuels but apparently it's something that my engine doesn't like. With the Cool Power, I had my main needle out about 1 1/2 turns and this was perfect. I tested the engine though idling. I let her idle for about 5 to 10 minutes with the Wild Cat and it didn't stall out or quit. It's only when I spool her up and about 15 seconds after I am hovering, the engine just quits. Like I said there was no sound change in the motor, just quit out.

Different oil viscosity plain and simple. If you had tuned for Wildcat and switched to Cool Power, you would have likely had a problem as well.
Both are excellent fuels, but it is unrealistic to think that you can change brands without tweaking your needles.

The more I touch electrics, the more I grow to hate them . . . .

I agree with tweaking your needles for best performance when changing fuels. I changed from cool power to wild cat and I didn't change my needles at all. Heli started right up and flies with plenty of power. I'd check some of the other things that may cause it to quit also(fuel lines, clunk, clunk line, leaking tank, loose muffler, loose head bolts, bad plug, worn engine, etc...). Could be a sign of something else bad or going bad.

Man, I miss the eighties.

I doubt anything else is going bad. But it's always a possibility I guess. I mean I ran a gallon of Cool Power through it before switching and she ran top notch. So maybe it is a matter of tuning the engine again after switching fuels, but I am just gonna stick with Cool Power. Thanks for the input though guys.

Okay, tom, enjoy the cool power. Just remember, things will run well before they go bad.

Yeah the Wildcat I had was from about 2 or 3 years ago about half full and it was sealed.

Probably has excess water in it, seems no matter how tight you seal it water gets in. Put a new plug in when you use the new gallon of whatever fuel you choose.

Yeah, what airdodger said....

I think 2-3 years is what the shelf life is of an unopened bottle (don't quote me on that, I think I read that somewhere). Once you open it all bets are off. Was it stored on concrete floor in the garage at all in the last 3 years? Was it exposed to heat and moisture in the last 3 years? Lots of things to consider.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!

Yeah it's probably the case guys. I am going to test it today. I am buying a gallon of Cool Power and a gallon of Wild Cat. I am going to test both fuels and I'll let you guys know the results.

You will be pleased to hear that I had exactly the same probs with my engine cutting, when i switched to wildcat. The engine would just quit when i spooled up and added pitch. It was quite annoying having to do a few forced auto's. I got onto wildcat and got some great advice from Jerry, he told me to re adjust my needles to really rich and start to bed the engine in again over the next few tanks or so. As the engine beds in start to lean off the needles till you find the sweet spot again, and max power. I was extremely sceptical and was relectant to try it, but I am glad I did, as the engine ran well and gave good power, and to date has yet to quit in flight again.

I think you have to re adjust and let your engine bed into the new fuel over a few tanks or so, then you can let rip.

Good luck

Well as I said I would I will give credit to AltecLansing for telling me it wasn't the fuel. He was right. It was my glow plug. As soon as I switched plugs, it ran great again.

Speaking of which, LONEWOLF2440, you should feel the power the ys has in it and it isn't even broke in yet. Wait til the ring wears a little, then it should pull a baby elephant off the ground. LOL!!

I have never gotten Wildcat fuels run well. Always heating problems. Then changed to Cool power and all problems gone instantly. I'd say some 30% more power and runs about 60 degrees F cooler. Dunno why. I tried WC 20% helimix and 30% 3DLV. Now using 30% Coolpower.
