Computer Flight Simulators > CSM- Any good?

After trying G2 and not being very succesful with it (see earlier posts) I still want to get a sim for my pc. Is CSM v10 the only other option to go for? How good is it? Does it compare to G2?

Anyone ever tried TruFlite?

I have the CSM V.10, on a Packard Bell 200mhz computer, Im using my Jr 8103 radio, the flying is so realistic it is scarey!!, It was very easy to set up, and I have not had any problems whatsoever, The graphics are not as good as the Real flight G2, but I dont mind... . Joe.

i used to run csm v10 on my P100, but only on graphic level3. I now own a 950MHz AMD, and CSM runs great. Very realistic controls - the graphics aren't as pretty as G2, but the experts say that the aerodynamic models in the csm are superior to g2. I've read that csm v10 runs real good on a 200MHz machine with an average video card (my video is on the motherboard).

I have V 9.4

Even version 9.4 is good I think. Of coarse what do i know, I have never tried either G2 or V 10 but, its really easy to setup and I think its more realistic than reality (figure that one out). Sometimes I get good practice by turning up the difficulty, i.e. the wind+turbulence, and I improve my reaction time by upping the sim speed. Learning nose in and sideways hovering at 80 something percent makes the real world so so easy. But then again I am prob just wasting time her since I cannot provide any type of comparison. Personally from what I heard is the G2 has better graphics while CSM has better physics, and I prefer reality. I mean the decent graphic are fun for so long, but even they get old after a while.

CSM

helicopter34,

I fly the csm V10 and it is great a friend of mine has a G2 and I like mine alot more, the graphics on the G2 are alot better but the V10 fly's better in my opinion.

I agree with the previous posts, the 'feel' of v10 CSM is superb. I taught myself to hover on my v10 before going and buying a Raptor 30. I built the heli, set it up and immediately was able to hover my Raptor. I now have 50 flights on the Raptor and do not believe that I would have been as successful if I had not first used the simulator.

My current challenge is to learn nose in hovering this winter on the simulator.

Regards, Peter

I love sims

I think I progressed rather quickly. With only about 6 tanks of hovering in the backyard I took off my landing gear, and within 2 flights at a field I was doing circuits, nove in hovering, and +. Stupid me thought I could do left to right circuits back and forth in my back yard, dumb thumb, and blade nicked some brick on my brick wall. Now I can have something that will take away the edge of not being able to fly (the sim) until I get my parts.

I had CMS V9.4 (started out as 9.1) and I have RFD G2. My summary? G2 is VERY pretty game, but CMS is a SIMULATOR. There just is no comparison between G2 and CMS as simulations. CMS is just SO realistic! You can spend a bit of time and REALLY dial the thing in so it flys just like your real bird. And that is in all flight modes too. G2 just doesn't cut it. No matter how much tweaking I have done on G2, I still can't get the helis to fly like my Raptor (or my Shuttle, or...). With some tips from folks on line, I have gotten it a lot closer than it was, but it still falls short of CMS V9.4. Lets say this: I am planning on getting V9.4 back from my brother so I can send the interface in and upgrade to V10. I want a great simulator. Not a good game.

V10 all the way!!!!!! The raptor is very good on this sim. Not only is it a great sim but its relatively cheap too. Most bang for the $ i'd say. Its hard to say if its better/worse than G2, imo they are different things, and appeal to different people.

Roamer,
You will like the v10 upgrade. You don't need video game graphics for a good sim, but being able to pick a heli that looks like yours does help the realism. The v10 upgrade left me desiring nothing else except perhaps better sound.

What? you don't like the CSM sound/buzz? No wonder so many are having a hard time setting their fuel mixture.

Hard to believe!

Seriously, The CSM is a great sim. Feels as close as you could expect to the real thing and fuel is cheap! Learn to do autos with one of the preset 30 size models and the blade drag coefficient set to the max and you can auto a brick. Graphics do leave a lot to be..., but thats not what a serious sim is for??? I only wish I could bring hell to one of these online G2 sessions posted on RR.
