Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Spark Plug Question

Hi again folks

Quick question:

Whats the best plug to use with the zen230puh (xcell 1005)?

I was recommended a NGK CMR7H but its longer (12.5mm) compared to the standard BMR7A.

I used the BMR7A but the end cap is screwed on and keeps coming loose

Thanks

The original G23

Used BMR7A which is a thicker plug.

The new G231 uses a CMR7H which is thinner.

Put locktite on the tip, it will stay

I've used:

Penzoil 25:1
Yamalube 25-32:1
Blue Marbel 32:1
Amsoil 36-40:1

Have you ever used castrol tt? it is readily available here.

Also should there be any vertical play/movement in the main gear. mines moves very slightly when i apply a lot of force

Thanks Raja

No never used Castrol

But some people do, I read about that here. I'm sure someone will chime in on that.

As far as the main gear, yes on the 1005 there should be a smidgen of up/down play with it enough to feel it move but as little as possible after that point. This way the tail transmission will spin freely.

Whats the best plug to use with the zen230puh

The NGK CR7HIX has been highly recommended for some time now as "The" plug to use in gasser engines. They are about 1/2" longer and can actually give you better clearance on the plug boot to the frames (at least on a SpectraG).

You can find them at Ron's Heliproz South - just search for NGK CR7HIX.

The NGK CR7HIX is for G231

The BMRA7 is for G230

Is this not the case?

It might just be, now that I look at it again.

I think I may have been confused by your description of the two different engines: One of them being the G230 (not 230puh), and the other being a 231PUH

Speaking of plugs...

Seems that everyone recommends any other plug rather than the RZ7C Champion that comes with the 231PUH.

I wonder if this is just preference, or is there any consensus against the RZ7C? I still have one new RZ7C, will probably use it when the old one gets older still, but wonder if I should stop using the type after that.

The one failure I did have with the RZ7C was an odd one. Over the period of a few days, the engine started to get harder and harder to start (compression seemed OK). Once started though, it ran just fine. As soon as I changed the plug, the engine went back to its usual second-pull, easy start.

There was nothing visually wrong with the plug, gap was OK, but I found out that I could actually blow air (although with a lot of resistance) through the plug. I was probably loosing just enough compression to make for hard starts, but the leaking plug seemed to seal as soon as it heated up, as the engine ran fine with no power loss. Go figure.

...NGK it is, then?

Don't sweat it

The Champion plug works OK also. If I had to buy one I'd buy the NGK, but recently I had to swap out plugs -- my old used ones were wearing out and the champion I had works just as well.

Tnkx for chiming in.

I still do have another in-box, new Champion, so I'll use it when the time comes. Won't be anytime soon though, as the current one is OK.
