Has anyone here read the 1950s novel by Ayn Rand titled Atlas Shrugged? If so, do you find any relative significance or similarities to our current economical situation and political choices, and what would those similarities be?

Discuss.

Atlas Shrugged is a very long novel! It took me nearly a year to get through it. Of course, there were several times that I didn't have time to sit down and read it, and the book sat for weeks at a time. Still, I found it to be a very compelling read!

Similarities to today's economical situation and political choices?

Absolutely! The book so accurately depicts todays political and economic climate, that it was like reading a book of revelation, and then watching everything that was written come to pass.

Spooky for sure!

Well, you hooked me. Anyone who has read the novel has to investigate a posting with John Galt's name in it! Yes, I've read it, twice. Ayn absolutely nailed where this nation was headed.

It's curious that knowledge of the outcomes of various choices hasn't prevented people (government) from making poor choices anyway. Regardless of what the politicians say, there is no painless path back from where we are today. Hang on boys and girls, we’re headed for a bumpy ride.

fwiw..

Hard to find...But Gary Coopers' portrayal of John Galt in the movie version was riveting...Far to prescient for my tastes..

I cringed today and this was the first thing I thought of when I heard the comment regarding the "collective" lowering of interest rates by banks today. Everything for the common good regardless of how damaging it is for the common welfare.
