Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > P-Max Crash Cost Comparison w/50 Size

Guys,
Pleskini and I have been flying everyday at lunchtime lately. If we do it right we can both get 3 tanks in and zip back to the office.

Well, I have been trying to learn the piro-flip and pushing myself pretty hard on the new stuff. Yesterday while flying the little Raven 50 I got about 1/2 tank into the first flight and then crashed.

But....since Century put the prices up on the Predator spares I thought I would see what it would have cost me if it was my P-Max that went in.

Anyhow, these are the parts I damaged minus blades. This is not indicative of what normally get's broke. My poor little Raven has been crashed 7 times and this time I broke the headblock. And....my torque tube has now survived FIVE crashes!!

Raven 50
HI3122A Landing struts - low profile 12.95
HI3138A Fuel Tank 7.50
HW3062A Tailboom 50 10.95
HW3173A Flybar 5.50
HW3180A Spindle 8.95
HW3053A Mainshaft 12.50
HI3160C Rotor Head Metal Hub - RAVEN, SE II 17.95
*****TOTAL***** $76.30

P-Max
HI6122A Landing Struts-Carbon (1 Pcs.) - Predator 17.50 x 2
HI6138 Fuel Tank W/Fuel Fittings & Isolators - Predator 12.50
HW6062A Tail Boom Long 825MM-80/90 - Predator 10.95
HW6173 Flybar 4MM - Predator 5.50
HW6180 Feathering Shaft - Predator 8.95
HW6053 Main Shaft - Predator 8.95
HI6160 Rotor Head Yoke - Predator 22.50

*****TOTAL***** $104.35

The only difference is the extra $5 on the headblock and the extra $25 CF Landing struts on the P-Max. Not to shabby if you ask me!

Hey Payton,

HI6122A Landing Struts-Carbon (1 Pcs.) is only $17.50 not $35.00 according to Century's site so if you only broke one your total cost would be $86.85 which would come out to just over $10.00 more than the .50 gotta love that

Yeah....but I broke them both in my crash on my Raven. So, in the interest making it a direct comparision I had to replace two.

Let me correct my post above.....

Helibee - Were you actually able to find one or did you put yourself on the backorder list? I thought Century was having trouble keeping them in stock due to the demand.

Helibee,
I think you will be very impressed with yours when you get it. It's a really good machine at a really good price. And....if you can't find a C-Spec then don't be shy of the YS .91. Either way you will be pleased with the power. Man oh man the power!!!!! These big-blocks just make flying helis an entirely different ball game.

While your at it be sure to get some large servo wheels that will do 19mm. Futaba servos come with it but if you want to use the JR then get the Airtronics large wheel. JR has one also but it's sold separately.

Schuie Driver,
Believe it or not but my C-Spec was purchased used of RR back in March. The C-Spec was hard to come by back then. These big blocks are hard to find. If you want a NIB one you might want to send 4AVacation an e-mail. He has/had one or two for sale.

Schuie:
I called on 5/6 and they had just received a shipment and were putting final parts in it before shipping. The person I spoke with assured me I would get one if ordered. I guess I'll call and confirm this though.

Lift:
I found a secondhand NIB Cspec on RR a couple of weeks ago and have been pondering an upgrade of my 60. This makes it much easier, and its made to fit. Thanks for the headsup on the 19mm wheels. I do have a question for you. Is this a 6mm hex start system?

Unfortunately, I'm leaving for two weeks this weekend and have to suffer out the anticipation until I return

FWIW, I called and confirmed. I was told they have a "couple hundred" and are filling backorders first, but feel they have plenty for immediate shipping.

gjestico,
For the purposes of this crash I didn't include replacing CF boom supports because they didn't break. But, had they it would have been a wash because I have them on my 50 as well, as do most guys. It's a common upgrade for most people and the cost is the same between my 90 and 50. For that mattter the quality of the ones in the P-Max kits is superior to what you get aftermarket and slightly cheaper. They don't shatter easily because I have had five crashes with them and they are rigid enough to keep my torque tube alive.

Along those lines you could make alot of other comparisions like blades. For instance....
50 size:
RotorTech CN266001 600mm CF $99.95

90 size:
RotorTech CN267201 720mm CF $129.95

Tail blades are the same price. So, were talking $30 difference here on blades. But, geez.....at some point you gotta think "It's a freakin 90 were talking here" and that $30 difference is well worth it.
