I was testing my belt tension by turning the tail rotor wile holding the main rotor steady. I wanted to see if the belt would slip. The belt did not slip on the gear, but the little gear at the front of the belt slips on the shaft if I put moderate force on it. Is this normal? that gear is not pinned onto the shaft, is it supposed to be glued or is it just a press fit? Can I re-glue it, or do I need to replace it? It kinda looks like a pain to replace. For now the helicopter flies fine, but Im afraid if it loosens more, I may lose tail control.

Is this the metal pulley slipping on the shaft? If so try pulling the pulley off, place a drop of green locktite (made for press fitting parts) on the shaft then repress pulley back on the shaft.

Its a trex 450 SA. the gear/pulley is plastic, and yes it is slipping on the shaft with moderate force.

I chased that problem for some time :0) -- swapping out mains and one ways etc -- got the micro heli one and all is great now. PS i removed the idler pully at this time also :0

im a bit confused by your post. the main gear and one way have nothing to do with the problem. the front tail belt gear is slipping on its shaft. the main gear is having no problem turning the other gear and the shaft of the front tail gear. Its hard to explain in words, but I'll try a different way...

The front of the belt meshes with a little platic gear. that little gear is slipping on its rod with moderate torque.

The more you fly it that way, themore it will slip and loosen. It's a crash waiting to happen.

I recently had a tail rotor strike onto a box indoors while setting up my gyro in rate mode. The tail stopped, but the mains continued to spool down. That little plastic gear stripped loose from the shaft.

I took it out and coated the shaft with good quality gap-filling CA and it has held for a few flights since then, but I know I'm on borrowed time.

As soon as I can, I'm going to get this:

Most SA flyers switch to this part as the plastic one we have breaks or slips too easily.

The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.

All I was gettin at was I had the same issue with the rear tail gear slipping on the shaft and didnt realize it and the tail lost all control -- I swapped out the one way thinking that was the culprut :0) I found out what it was and used the MH one as shown and removing the idler pully solved all issues -- more or less dont fly it like that lol
