OK....so how much for the packs to fly my Logo 10? I know they will not be cheap, but worth it if I can fly as long as my Nitro heli's.

The 4s4p packs deliver the power of 12-13 cells, and have 7800 mah

Cost is $250 directly from the manufacturer. You can email him directly (Mr Charlie Wang):

aenergytec@aol.com

Let him know you would like to purchase a pack, and need to know the total with shipping and where to send your money order.

It takes about 1-3 weeks until you have the packs in your hands.

Just be sure you have a charger capable of charging Lithium Ion/Polymer cells. The Great Planes Triton can charge a 4s4p pack in about 3-4 hours ($129). The Orbit chargers with the new v6.2 software can fully charge a 4s4p pack in about 2 hours.

Faster and more powerful chargers for 1 hour charge times are on the horizon, but itll be about 6-9 months before we see those from the looks of things (Unless the new Schulze that was just released is as good as promised!).

Seven flights thus far - 16 minutes to 20+ minutes depending on style of flying. What I like is that even towards the end of the pack, the battery still has enough punch left to give me a good vertical climbout when I hit the collective.

My only complaint is the roughly 3.5 hours charge time with the Triton - it maxes out at 2.5A for LiPoly. I guess I will need a new Schulze!

LVRCFlyer,

Would you do me a favor and measure the physical size of the 4S4P pack?

I've gotten 32+ minutes at a low head speed with the 15L, and mid 20 minutes with the 15L/16T @ 1640 RPM head speed tached hovering. Until, "the incident" ....

Thanks for the measurements! Appears to be shaped like a Logo pack should be ;o) .. I will have to use 2, 2S4P packs and lay them side by side to get the shape I need for my particular installation (58x49x1266).

Charging Lithium

I think one of the reasons you do not see big amp chargers for lithium cells is 'most' lithium cells do not allow it.

We are currently building a windows CE device at work, which is using a lithium battery, and the battery is limited in it's maximum charge rate, specified by the manufacturer. So I believe that is why you do not see it yet.

I also investigated using a 3S4P pack in our device, and the battery manufacturer recommended against this. They said a 3P system will be ok, but a 4P system will reduce the life of the batery (number of cycles), because your different series chains will cause the battery to become unmatched, i.e. one of the parallel sets will be weak, and be abused, while the other stronger legs will be underused.

I know there is a conditioning cycle that can be performed on Lithium batteries to bring them back from the dead, I do not know the details of it though, but this may be necessary to bring your 4S4P cells back after many cycles. (i.e. split the pack, re-condition the cells, and reassemble) to gain maximum life.

From what I have seen of the lithiums we use, the failure mode is the inability to either charge the battery, or hold the charge for very long. We have seen batteries that just will not reach full charge, or discharge very quickly. The inability to charge should be caught by the charger (duh!).

These have been my current experiences with using these batteries. I do believe though that these batteries are the future, and will re-define how electric heli's are viewed in the eyes of all heli pilots.

can I run both nimh and LiPoly?

I have a logo 10 on the way, and it's coming with a 3000 mah nimh. I'm new to this hobby, so, do i have to use different setups if i was to buy a 4s4p LiPoly? In other words, Is there a way I can just fly the 3000 mah nimh, cool, plug in the LiPoly and fly? I'm looking at getting the 7800 mah LiPoly pack. Thanks, Neil
