My 600 has developed a vibration issue that I am unable to solve. It only really shows up at idle up and then it is pretty obvious. In normal mode at hover you do not really see it. The bird has not had a serious crash. Only hitting the tail rotor a couple of times on autos causing the front bevel gear to crack. (shaft driven tail).

Without the main blades I do not see the vibration, although the bird is obviously still on the ground. The blades are balanced both to each other and balance longitudinally at the same point. I have tried 2 sets of mains with the same result. Since I hit the tail I changed out the tail shaft and tail blade holders as I had bought the newer version. No change. I swapped out the feathering spindle and main shaft thinking that they are usually the culprits on my smaller birds. Still no change.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Stuart

Try new dampers – while you have it apart lube the bearings and inspect the spindle very carefully. Dirty and rough bearings can cause that king of a problem. Make sure all grip bearings are smooth. Check all the bearings in the head and control system.

Could also be a slightly bent flybar or paddle alignment.

Check all the control rods – sometimes you can have a slight bend and it’s not obvious without a close inspection.

This happened to me after a crash. I replaced alot of parts I did not need to change. The last part I changed was the big bearing on the pinon gear the one in the starter housing and the shaking was gone. Good Luck

I was thinking of trying the dampers next. I think they are original.

Spames I am not sure I understand which bearing caused your problems? Could you tell it was bad when you looked at it?

Yes I could tell after pulling the cluch /starter housing see page 9 of your manual. I could feel the bearing moving side to side about 3/16 of an inch. I replaced Bearing 6800ZZ and this fix the problems.

Was that with the gas version?
Mine is electric.

I would still check any and all bearings. The align bearings are not the best bearings IMO and you could have a bad one somewhere in your drive train....
Good Luck

Still looking!
I noticed a bit of slop in one of the blade holders and found a stuck bearing and slightly galled interior of the blade holder. I replaced the blade holder and bad bearing. Also the trust bearings as I have a bunch of spares. I replaced the rubber dampers with Grey ones that I had (unused). Still the same vibration.
I had noticed a slight bit of play in the main shaft so I replaced the 3 support bearings and eliminated that play. Also changed the tail rotor as they had little chips from hitting the ground. Still no change.

I pulled the main blades off again and ran her up. I can feel a vibration by holding onto the tail boom but it does not visably shake. I pulled the head off and ran it up with just the main shaft and swash and there was less of a vibration. Not sure if this is normal or not.

Rechecked the main blades and they balance to each other and at the same place length wise.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Stuart

Think I got it fixed.
I decided to try to balance the whole head (not sure if anyone still does that) I found it was pretty good without the blades. Hard to balance with the blades as anything except perfectly straight out throws off the balance.
I next checked my main gears and found them to be out of balance (using a High Point balancer). I exchanged them and balanced new ones. The auto gear requires a bit of grinding to bring it into balance. I also went back to the black dampeners, bought a new set yesterday.
Vibration is 90% gone.

Thanks to all for your help.
