e-Align T-REX 250-450-500-600 > T-REX 450 looking for the perfect gyro

I'm looking for an alternative gyro other than a 401. My tail seems to not respond to input when flying out from a backward flight. I don't think it's mechanical. Would a spartan gyro be the answer?

for a 450?? those are full size gyros..

The mini version of the Solid-G should be hitting the market this week. I would wait for the Mini-G.

When you say it "doesn't respond to input" are you saying it is not holding, won't turn from sideways flight toward backward or saying there is no response from inputs in either direction when in fast backward flight?

Why don't you think it is mechanical? I assume you mean you have worked through binding linkage, binding tail slider, lubrication, notchey bearing issues before and think those are not the issues now.

Do you include how much authority you have on the tail and how hard it is to move the tail control linkage under the full load of backward flight as mechanical?

Why have you centered on the gyro? You didn't include much (any) other information other then what gyro you have. That is not much to go on. With the wrong servo or set up the gyro won't make any difference in how the tail holds.

What model?
What head speed?
What blades?
What tail blades?
What Servo?
What type linkage to the tail?
Have you done the Chinese Weight mod to the tail blade holders? It makes a huge difference in how much force is required to move the tail control linkage under load. Most of the load is from just spinning at 13,000 rpm. It makes a huge difference on how hard the servo / gyro has to work and how well the tail holds, responds, and feels.

JR 770/3500G combo works awesome. Holding power is more important to me than the little extra wieght of a full size gyro.

I wonder how much of the holding power is the gyro and how much is the servo? That servo works very well with the GY401 too. Probably the best servo for a Trex 450 even with a GY401 from what I hear.

I put the Spartan and a 9257 on my 450.
Do it.
Its amazing, and still small.
Today I pulled off my best ever funnels with my 450, and a travelling elevator tic toc as well.
The is gyro instills confidence in your machine, and thats what you need to push harder with 3d.

If you bling it, they will come :D

You can try the new JR 750T with 3500G!! Metal case, half size than the 770T and cheaper ...

careful - that 2100 is delicate.

If it gets hit from the side - the LED's that show thru the case top will break off (don't aske me how i know) which will render the gyro useless. Also, there is no US support center - you have to send it back to Korea for repair - and their customer service center over there doesn't speak english.

fwiw..

imho, any of those gyros should work fine...I like the 2100, but it's a little tricky to set up...401 is the "default" gyro...If it won't hold backwards, it;s not the gyro...Spartan is smoothest of the bunch, but more expensive..I'mrecently running Spartan/9257 on 6V..Works Niice!

Guys im new to electrics and have a 450 trying to set up for more 3 d. (I have always had larger models) I put my 401 gyro on with some off brand micro servo. Seems ok but its nothing like the im used to on larger helis. My question could i use a 9254 on the tail ? i know it would be heavier but it seems like it would work better ??

It will be heavier, and it wont work better than a 9257 on a heli this size.
It will be very tail heavy, and you wont be happy with it.

If you bling it, they will come :D

most tail servo's dont like 6 volts, shortens their life.
Most of the time tail servo's are so fast that there is no nead for 6v operation.
Im not familiar with that servo either Im afraid.

If you bling it, they will come :D

Try this tail mod for better gyro effect

A 9257 is about the best for a 450 so far

The AMA is way better than what you belong to!
