Clever idea , and i'm sure it makes the second side easier.

My thought is the spindle sleeve wouldn't work correctly if it happen to be on one of the cutouts. Assuming the cuts were made in the center of the spindle.

The spindle sleeve has a tight spot right in the center that takes the loads , then the dampers do the fine bits.

Myself i use the rag with a set of plyers , for the most part the shaft comes out unscathed.

One way bearing ... brilliant IMO , thinking outside the box for sure.

Not loctite .. nuts IMO , i had a loctited one loosen up on my 600e.

Good thinking though.

Martin

I usually use a large pair of channel lock pliers and grab near the center of the spindle to undo the bolt. I have done this for years with not ill effects on many different models.

I do think your "flats" are clever, though.

Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours

I like the notch idea. But given the spindle shaft is hollow, if I were doing this mod I would not take off so much metal. You don't nee much taken off for an adjustable wrench to grip a flat surface, IMO.

Thanks for the encouragement fellas. It's cool to think of new ideas, and they are not all genius I admit. One question for sam though. My shafts do not appear to be hollow. Are yours? I am positive mine are the align spindles, do you fly aftermarkets?

I may not know how to fly...
But at least I know how to CRASH

I said weaken, I fear I could snap in crash. If it bend in midle where you cnc it down during crash. You now have trouble remove the shaft from head block. Good chance u damage head block trying remove it.
