| I am using the 9257 tail servo and a DX7. The trims/subtrims are zeroed, and my control arms are at 90 when neutral. I used the factory presets as a starting point and my gain is already at 100 with continued poor tail control.

On which side of the frames is your tail servo fixed?
Remember that the preset has been made (see at the preset description) for full size tail servo.
If you use a midi servo, maybe you fixed it on the other side frame. So the tail pre torque compensation will go the wrong way now.
To fix, change direction of tail sensor, stick and servo (expert soft).
