Witnessed this last weekend, on no less than 4 occassions on 4 different machines. Looking to get the 700N as a bash around but not sure that the bugs have been ironed out yet. Any one else had a maingear strip yet??

Weird, I have close to 18 gallons thru mine and no problems with the main gear. I keep seeing reports of the main gear online however. I'm wondering if something changed in the production runs that has caused this? Weaker main gear? Misalignment with the main gear and pinion? Bearings failing in the clutch bell assembly?

I have a 2nd 700 I'm testing out this weekend, I'll see If it shows up with this one.

Thanks.

Just trying to judge if this is an isolated few cases or a bigger problem. The only time i ever stripped a main gear on a machine was in a crash, the affected models had not been involved in any crashes.

Nope

No problems with mine and it was even in a crash and nothing wrong. Know a few guys who have them now with no problems either. Mine was one of the 1st kits out and nothing wrong. I was one of the 1st to have one in the U.S so maybe its a new kit problem or just a few bad ones? Who knows. Good luck with it and has it happened more than 1 time on the same heli? or on different helis? If same heli I would say something is wrong with the heli

Just trying to judge if this is an isolated few cases

4 occasions on 4 machines at one field on just one weekend doesn't sound "isolated".

Were they different pilots flying them as well?

Ok so they will make a stronger one

Its the same with their other models, they get them into production really fast compared to other brands, the downside being that problems will show up when used by the masses.

There seem to be just the 2 issues with the model, the gear and the suspect links so on a positive note,97% of the model is spot on from the word go.

Gears stripping, and links breaking. Just minor little things. Cant imagine why a few small problems would be anything to worry about !! I for one owned Align products and probably never will again. Its reports like those earlier that make me think I have made the right decision.
I truly think Align needs to assure better quality control programs as they ramp up to production quantities. There seems to be a disconnect between prototype models and production. $750 for a kit provides no value in my opinion when the result of poor QC or engineering causes this number or reported incidences.

^^^^ Very true, the one thing to say about Align is they will address and solve the issues. Unlike some manufacturers that seem to bury their heads in the sand.

The problem with " addressing and solving the issues" after the release is that YOU the owner now face owning a crashed helicopter. I understand wanting to defend the manufacturer as you own their machine and no one likes to feel taken advantage of but its the consumer that ends up with the short stick. Just continue to crash until "they" fix it - sounds reasonable.

Not trying to defend Align that's for certain. When I purchased the machine I knew there could be issues and I was willing to take that chance knowing that those issues would probably be addressed down the road. Align doesn't stick a gun to anyones head forcing them to purchase the machine.

The main reason that i have yet to buy one, i bought a 600N 7 months after they were released and had no issues with it for many months, until i just wore it out, now a new lease of life with new links bearings ,etc.

I will wait till the new year for my 700N.
