OK, I'm holding a hover pretty still even from the sides and nose-in. I'm trying to do small figure-8 circuits but I my turns seem to be more like stall turns instead of co-ordinated turns like a plane. Is in forward flight going slow nothing but rudder, or is using too much rudder causing the slide and the stall turn like manuerver?

I think it is more of a good balance between your cyclic controls and you rudder controls. I use the cyclic to get the front of the chopper heading in the direction I want, then slowly use rudder control to get the tail to follow.

Good luck..

Do the figure 8's slow at first, you will start to see and react to the helicopter wanting to do the stall turn. You can then counter that stall with some cyclic to bank the heli a bit so that it then does a turn rather than a stall. Once you get the hang of that then go faster and you will then need to compensate with pitch some to prevent the heli from pitching up on you. Practice practice practice on the simm. Your fingers will start to react without your brain getting in the way

Forward flight on a heli should be VERY similar to that of an airplane. If you want to do a co-ordinated turn, you bank the heli first (left or right), then feed in rudder, and back elevator. The rudder being a lot more important for a heli than an airplane

If you're going slow, then it's somewhere between hovering and FF and it takes a lot more input to make a turn look nice and smooth.

Just practice man. It'll come.

ive found if you want slow figure 8s, add a little foward cyclic to get things going. Lead with the rudder, then the cyclic left or right. not the bank and yank of FF. It takes time to get the balance right.
