What about the ESC?

That is possible however in my experiences, the Align esc's don't slowly go bad, they just immediately smoke!

Then I think it would be safe to assume that it's not your esc.

You don't want to go above 145 Fahrenheit

I don't know how much heat your motor can take. If you have a temp gun USE IT!, After every flight, This way you can give out better info. and it will help you keep track of your system so you'll know something is going bad before you crash.

come on now, I'm not going to use a temp gun after EVERY flight on a trex 450... I will check the gear mesh, then run a pack and use the temp gun and find out what it is at.

I do know that before I changed the pinion the motor, esc, and batt were all cool. I do touch them after most flights just to make sure everything is normal.

There's some thing else wrong if you are having to run a 14T pinion! You SHOULD be able to make 3100 with a 13T pinion. What head speed do you want to run? Also what blades are you running? Do you have a tach?
What throttle curve are you using? Which motor are you running and what is the KV?

i would make sure your mesh is pretty loose because it could be causing extra drain on the motor causing it to heat up... question, how long are you flying and what style and how many mah are you putting back? if your just doin loops and stuff then theres something extremely tight in your setup... also check to make sure your belt isnt tight and spin your blades and see if they rotate a time or 2 freely... the align motor doesnt cog very hard so you should be able to spin your main gear a little bit...

Well I got home last night and sure enough the I had the the gear mesh as tight as a jigsaw puzzle, so I fixed it...

I didn't think about checking the belt as I haven't messed with it for a while, although I will check it later.

A tach I do not have. Plenty of the guys at the field do, I'll see if I can get one of them to check it for me Sunday as thats the next time I'll get to really fly.

The motor is the align 3700kv
blades align woods 325
throttle curve 100 75 100
pitch curve linear at -10 +10

flying style = just learning loops, flips, rolls ect...
My collective management is still poor at this stage

as far as a target rpm I don't have a specific #, I am looking for just enough that when I make a bad move I don't have the "falling out of the sky" effect before I can recover. with the bigger pinion on it seems I can recover much more easily as I plenty of power in reserve....

Well to my dismay I did not get to put this bird in the air today. I was at club fly and I spent all my time getting the details sorted out on my new twist 150 with the evo 26 gasser on it. Tomorrow I will be at the heli field most the day so I KNOW I'll get the chance to post some details tomorrow night.
