Ok guys im new to electric helis and trying to figure out what charger to use and balancer. So here's the story. I have a trex 450 coming and it has with it 2 -evo 2500 25c 11.1 batteries. Im looking at a astro flight charger 109 or the a123 charger. First i guess there is a difference between a lithium ion and a A123 lithium ion right ? And the evo 2500s say lithium polymer....so that rules out the A123 charger right ? So if i get the 109 astro charger what type of special plug would i need to get a balancer (maybe blinky balancer) hooked up to it? Now bare in mind i fly larger helis that use 5600 lithium ion batterys for fuel helis. i have charged these batterys for 2 years now with no problems and never used a balancer....but these are not the same kind as the electric bats, so thought i better start balancing at least the elec. heli bats with balancer. Also would like to use this same charger to charge my 5600 Lion's

* So would astro 109 charger work for what im doin and just get the blinky to go with?
* Would the Astro A123 lithium ion work as well for what im doin ?
* And what type of connector do i need to get the battery hooked up to the blinky balancer?

Thanks for any help !! Greatly Appriciated !

This ought to set off the chargers experts again. IMHO there are 3 to chose from, all three will do Nicad, NiMH, A123, LiPo, LiIon, PB acid as far as I know.
Hyperion 610i DUO (can charge 2 at once, internal balancer, need balance adapter for your balance plug on battery)

ThunderPower 1010C with 210V balancer

CellPro 10S
http://www.fmadirect.com/new_applic...10s_charger.htm

I can speak for the Hyperion DUO, works great, cost around $260.
The Thunder Power works great too, but can only charger one battery at a time, but the balancer is add on, total cost $290.

I have no experience at all with the CellPro, but looks good and there have been lots of positive comments about it on this forum.

I am no electronics expert so I won't even begin to comment on max charge rates, watts, and whatever else there is. All I can tell you is that the highest charge rate I have used with either charger is 3.7 amps with no issues at all. On the Hyperion, that is 3.7 amps times 2 batteries at once.

One thing for sure, whichever way you go, you will need a good power supply, I say at least 30amps, but I am sure you will get many more opinions on that.

Thank you kcordell, that helps a bunch, especially when there is so many.....I was overwhelmed when i done a search for chargers at tower hobbie. So there is a distinct difference between A123 lithium ions and "reg" lithium ions im assuming ? Thanks for the links as well.
Off topic but do you know of any fun flys in MO. coming up?
Not many helis at all in this area.....Just curious.

No more until next June.
But, there is e-fest in Champaign in February. I highly recommend it for flying the 450 or foamie if you have one. Huge place to fly and a riot for 3 days.
