I had helped someone with it a month ago. If you have an early model 10C you'll only have 8ch. if you have a newer one you'll have 9ch.
Go to Spektrum's site and get more info.

As far as i know there was no early or late 10X,there was a 10SX and 10SX2 but they were different radios alltogether.

Anybody with first hand knowledge: with a 10C and a spektrum module, I assume you lose the model match (or whatever Futaba calls it) functionality? That meaning there is no protection for the transmitter being on the wrong model like the old days.

That's right, no model match with the module in a 10c. I just ordered a 10c and module, I'm going to replace my 9303. I just don't like the limitations on programming and the timers on the x9303, but I like the technology and receivers of Spektrum. So, I'm going to use the module, and see if I can modify the radio to run the wiring internally.

Futaba doesn't have model match.

The Spektrum modules do not have model match. Only native JR/Spektrum systems have model match. (DX6i, DX7, x9303 and the 12x 2.4)

Remember that the 10c must be used in PPM mode so you will only get 8 channels, and you will also have the latency that comes along with the PPM to digital conversion.

That said I'm thinking about replacing my 9c with a 10c.

8 is fine for me. If you look at Jkos's testing, it's just as fast with the Spektrum module than an X9303.

I was pm'ed by a person directly from Spektrum and they told me the 10c will not work with the Spektrum futaba module the DM8. He said

The Spektrum module will not support the 10C. Futaba changes the PPM stream making it incompatable.

So this option is a NO GO

Well, we'll see tomorrow. I know that a couple of people have tried it and it did work.

Funny because several people over on RCGroups are using their 10C with Spektrum, and not one of them have complained. I've messaged one user a few times because I'm thinking of selling my 9CHP and getting a 10CHP. I'll go ask again over there to make sure. If for some reason it doesn't work, then there is no way I'll buy a 10c as it would then not work with my Plantraco conversion.

But when you consider that the 10C works with all FM modules designed for the 9C, then you have to expect that it works with the spectrum modules too. So the person from Horizon that sent you the private message should probably just make a post and explain exactly what is different.

If they changed the PPM scheme it wouldn't be compatible with the older recievers so I find that hard to believe.
