I bought Nexus 30 package (all brand new) for a good deal on ebay, and understood when I bought it that the helicopter was not in production anymore and there could be problems getting parts. I went in with the mindset that it would likely be under 3 months before I replaced the airframe, to one where I can get parts.

What nitro helicopter should I get? Ideally I would like a 30 size, however they seem very few and far between these days. 90 sizes seem all the rage, and although it is feasible it is quite fancy for just a weekend flyer like I intend to be. What helicopter is good value for money, parts are easy to come by, and I can just have years of fun with?

Raptor 50
Trex 600
Vibe 50

Those are the first 3 that come to mind. And, parts are easy to find for all of them.

You think your kids are expensive now?

Just wait until they move out!!

Just say no! You'll end up wanting a 50 anyway, I did. If you have your heart set on a 30 get the Raptor. Conversion to a 50 is about $100 not including engine.

The helicopter is a machine trying to commit suicide, our job is convincing her to fly...

The only reason I would want a bigger one is because they are more common - I can get parts easily for them. I understand the 90s will be more stable, but also more expensive, especially with the fuel.

I have no problems spending money, if it is value for money - I just want to be wise about it.

There is the Century Hawk Pro 30 "noobie friendly"
But for a few more $$ you can get a Raven 50 with Carbon blades and it has all the upgrades already that the Hawk doesn't come with

I converted a Hawk Pro to a Raven 30 because I bought a wrecked Raven50 for dirt cheap.

There is also a Kinetic 50 which is a larger version of the Hawk pro

I only have experience with the trex450 and Century

I'm not trying to push a Century just letting you know about them

you should research any heli you are considering

parts cost
availability
maintenance
reliability
and is there someone around with a similar heli to help out

Raptor parts are everywhere.

The 600n's are every where, light, and fly very well.

The Vibe is more expensive but you don't need to upgrade anything on it.

Stay away from the 90's. It is not something to start with unless you have a very large checkbook.
And if that's the case and you have unlimited funds go for it.
Save some money for the crashes.

lainhol, I just jot into helies, I got a Trex 600 Nitro Pro for my first bird. Let me say it was the best decision I could have made. Unless you are Tree Hugging Watt Head, I would incourage you to get a 50 size N to start with.

My local heli guru flyes a Raptor 50, and a Vibe 50, He loves the Raptors. I have also found the parts fot The Raptors , and the Trex 600 are readelly avalable.

Get a 50 size Nitro, you will not regret it.

I started with a Raptor 50 Titan and now also fly a Pantera 50 (Audacity models). Both are great helis, stable, easy to maintain and good to begin and evolve with.
The Pantera has the advantage of being cheaper (a bit) and eCCPM.

Good luck!

It also depends on where you want to go with your flying. I would have to second the hawk, they are dirt cheap, and very beginner friendly. Pluss my guess would be your going to use the motor in your nexus to transplant into another 30. The really are only a touch smaller then a 50. That heli will take you from hovering to FF to basic aero and light 3D. If you are looking for something that you can do all the 3D you ever want then look toward a 50. Then again yoor gona need a new motor ect.

Definately go for a 50 . Another reason being that the small increase in blade size over a 30 size heli makes a big difference in autorotation performance .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

I'll tell you what. Just send me the money that you would have spent on the 30. I'll go out and buy you a nice paper weight. And I'll keep the difference. Because that is what you'll end up with.
EXCEPT, my way you'll end up with a much nicer looking paper weight

I'd rather be flying

It just came to me.

I already have a 30 size paper weight at home aka Hawk Pro. All it needs is a couple of servos. And it would be a fully functional paper weight.

I'd rather be flying

Hey hey Zaneman007

If you don't want that Hawk pro paper weight I'll pay for the shipping

I converted my paper weight into a Raven30 using a wrecked Raven50

It may not be a 50 but I love it anyway
