From my fixed wing days, I was taught to "push the low wing up" when the model is coming towards you (move the aileron stick in the direction of the low wing to level the model)
I was wondering if a similar thing exists for elevator when flying nose in ?

Do you mean Aileron? nose in stick move in the direction of the lean.Elev.stays the same.

The easiest way I find to remember the orientation is just move the stick the direction the heli is going. Whole lot easier than using the prop up the low wing theory.

Exatly how I taught myself. Instead of pushing to the low wing ts now tail and nose also, what ever is low. Since you have plank experince you may find starting with slow circles is helpfull if you are comfortable with ff. Backwards learning I know, but it worked for me.

It just takes time, nose, tail and aileron "pushing" works. But to be a good pilot you've got to just start doing. Practice a lot and you'll get it.
You wouldn't walk very fast, less run, if you had to think about where to put your feet to go forward.
Thanks for the replies. Way2sLow's idea seems to be the easiest to understand and explain to beginners.

Or...stick to trouble! Move the stick towards the trouble that the heli is getting itself into.

PolyH is right on. Baby steps, start a bit high and go at it for short moments and just work into it. This is one thing the sim is really good at as well.

It took me months to get nose in. It will come, stick to the direction it's leaning.

my brain just puts my mind as if i were in the cockpit.
So i just always try to think first person. It really helps, i started slow but than it was a lot easier.

I'm with Marty on this one. I also do the first person thing. Took me almost a year before I could do FF with out everyone at the field running for cover when I went to the flight line and helping me pick up parts on my way back it was a looong year, then one day it "clicked". And I do mean literately "one day". one day I could barley fly and the next day I was doing decent figure 8's and nose in. It will come, give it time, it will "click" for you too!!!
