Wayne, are you really going to pay $135 for someone else to put a piston in. If it didn't score the cylinder and you are carefull getting the ring off, piston ain't but $30 and it's really no problem to replace. I recently melted one in the Hyper 50 I have in my Kinectic 50 but that was because I can't count. I thought I had the main one turn plus two clicks but had it 1/2 turn plus two clicks.

I also have to agree, melted piston means lean condition or too hot of a glow for the fuel combination. I've never run anything but 15% CoolPower in both my Hyper 50's.

Now, to throw a monkey wrench in things. TOO MUCH oil is not good either. Oil will actually make the piston hold more heat because it's actually insulating the piston from the cylinder wall and you won't get as good of a heat transfer. Add the fact the oil can change the octane and cause detonation.

I know those that think this is crap is going to chime in but I've been doing high performance two strokes a long, long time. Granted it's been on bigger engines than these little things but the size of the motor doesn't change the effect oil has.

I do see that you're not into small aircraft, either!

I too gave up on glow. Been flying them for longer than I care to remember (more than 30 years actually), and about two years ago I sold my last glow model, a Raptor helicopter.

Now I only fly gasoline or electrics. A gas-powered Spectra-G helicopter, a little T-Rex 450SE V2 electric heli, and an electric sailplane. No more glow for me.

Gas-powered fixed wing, eh? I wonder what that would be like...
Thinking again... no, I don't want to get started on that, the two helis and the glider are a handful already, the wife already gives me "the look" as it is. If I walk into the house with a 40% airplane, I'll surely need a lawyer.

Bruno.
