This is something ive really been waiting for, 21,1 mp, full HD video 1920x1080 with 30 fps, and clips up to 12 minutes, high res pics can also be captured from the movie clips.

Once again, Canon gets another step ahead of Nikon, thats why i love my Canon children

Can you change aperture while shooting in video mode?

Interesting technology. The ability to have good glass on a wide angle lens and shoot 1080p for a pretty lengthy duration is appealing.

More research is needed on the format.

Tabb, what are you smoking son? Care to fill in the lines for someone who doesn't get it? What's the process for converting a 5D over to Infa Red? Is it cost effective Vs just buying a little FLIR? I'm inquiring and my mind wants to know....

Daytonabeach, thank you for showing me my next camera. It's awesome. I've been waiting for the newest Red cam, Sophia I think, but this is here and now. It'll go real nice with my Copterworks gimbal and new XLC. Now, if JetCat had that darn turbine in stock, I'd be set. Oh well, that'll give me time to get familiar with the new Cannon.

Short version:
Your digital camera has an IR Cut Filter (ICF) fitted over the sensor which blocks infrared light significantly. As a result exposures are usually into several seconds, resulting in the need of a very sturdy tripod.

You remove that filter and replace it with a ir filter equal to a R72 filter (screw on)

Not all sensors are suited for this use and often you can get a white spot in the middle of the picture..

You can try with a regular R72 filter first, key here is looooong exposures to get enough light trough

Check out

www.lifepixel.com for IR conversion info.

Not sure it would fit the same bill as a FLIR but it may work in a pinch.

How is that possible?

I'm also excited over the new 24L II.

Cheers,

Prioritized customers have some advantages

When new cameras, are released they are always shipped to the largest dealers first, they have a priority list, in the second round the rest of the dealers usually gets them, disadvantage is that its often more pricy the first months until the large electronic stores gets them and start pumping it out to "affordable" prices

Must be different in Norway.

Here in the States I nor any of my friends have never been given priority as a CPS member. CPS here does not sell cameras so I don't see how it would help

I will say it can help to be friendly with your local shop but often the large online retailers get stock before the brick and mortars

Either way I am getting my hands on one

Yea, i think its very much different, Norway is a much smaller country with good economy where money means a great deal, according to UN we have been appointed 5 years on the run the best country in the world to live in, sure we have allot of oil money, but no, thats nonsense, especially if you knew how bad we are spending those money...

Anyway, with smaller community its "easier" to provide VIP service to the ones who "needs it" since the amounts may only be dozens and not thousands compared to iex US

CPS might no be a store, but they are the supplier to the stores, and can of course route something through a dealer, but sometimes they also sell right out of Head office for special occasions.

Im not THAT desperate getting hold of one of these, so i dont think i will put much effort in getting one early.

The old 5D still is a prima camera

In a video sense, the benefits of using 35mm lenses are the ability to capture shallow depth of field in a video format, otherwise impossible without a Letus adapter or equivalent.
