| I had been contemplating getting an EXI and then I saw something else that sparked my interest. I purchased an Exceed Blueray 450 PE. Xheli was selling it for $229 during the Labor Day weekend. It is basically an RFT less the Lipo Charger, Rx & Tx. I had read that it was a carbon frame/metal head version of the Exceed Revolution which was basically a Belt CP. Posts also said that it took Trex Parts. I found a free shipping coupon and Got it from Xheli here: http://www.xheli.com/revolution-450-arf.html
Anyway. I already had another Rx for my Spektrum that I had planned to upgrade my Nitro Raptor but changed my mind and loaded it into this bird.
Setup was very similar to the Belt CP and to start out, I copied my Belt CP settings over in my DX7 then reversed a couple servos then I was done w/ the initial setup. This is not a beginner Heli and there is no instructions w/ it so you need to already know how to set things up. I ran it up on the test stand and adjusted the Esky 704A HH gyro similar to my Belt setup (gain polarity on the 704A vs. 704B are different so I changed that). After setting up the pitch range mechanics to what I wanted, I ran it up on the test stand. First thing I noticed was the midrange throttle curves needed to be adjusted down. I went for the following pitch ranges: Norm -2 to +9 Idle1 -5 to +9 Idle2 -9 to + 9 Set my head speed at all the points in the Idle up curves to about 2600RPM using an optical tach. Since I had an optical tach and I use a home made run up stand in the basement, I had to turn the lights out and use a flashlight from the cieling to get the optical tach to read right (otherwise it will show rpms scewed by the flicker of the flourescent lights)
My time for flying has been limited lately and Last week I did a couple batteries hovering it. It was very stable compared to the Belt CP. Especially w/ a breeze.
This morning I had enough time before work to fly it twice. It was about 10mph winds and it flew very good. It flew really nice loops although w/ the headwind, that helped it round out. After I flew it, I flew the Belt CP which still has the stock mechanics except I just upgraded to composite blades. The Blueray was noticably more stable in the wind.
I'll try to put it through some more paces this week and next and comment on my results.
