main shaft

first things are you planning on using it again? if so pull the rotor head completly off and loosen the locking collar and try to get a flat head under the shaft by the main gear and pry up with out breaking anything. If not you can do like you said and cut it out or take a pair of vise grips and just keep pulling on it till it breaks free it most likely has a burr on it somewere thats hangging it up. i had that happen on one of my birds and it worked out. good luck brother.

Look its the rookie, everyone run and hide

Take the bolt out of the mainshaft where it goes through the main gear, set the heli on the ground, stand on the skids, and pull up on the grips. Never had one that was stuck worse than I can pull.

I had this same issue just 2 weeks ago. The oneway was seized up (just about) What I did I cant recommend but Ill tell you how I got it out. I took out the main tank and the bolt thru the main gear. While I could turn it it would not move up. I ended up using a drill bit the correct size and used a "gulp" hammer to push it out from the bottom. Now it came out enough to twist it all the way out, I cleaned and fit it all back together and went to test it. The one way was still a little tight. after two or three tanks I thought I heard a sound, listened and then decided it seems OK. After landing but before my next tank a buddy noticed white dust on the muffler side of the frame near the tail gears by the main gear. It appeared the main gear was riding too low and was rubbing on the front tail gears (torque tube)

I odered a replacement one way with hub "kit" from align. When I pushed it out the first time I might have nicked the center hub part the the bottom bearing as well may have been marred. It turned fine but for the cheap price of parts I wanted to replace the bottom bearing (this is what is holding tight to you shaft by the way, least it was on mine) 12 bucks and you get three main bearings and 19 I think for the hub oneway assembly. (dont forget to put the aluminum hex parts into the replacement bottom bearing as youll not be able to screw it in place

So I had to of course remove the whole thing again to put in the new parts but I did have a system to do it. I would suggest you get a wooden dowel the correct size to try and prevent any nicks on the bottom bearing. Well it worked for me. The one way spins as free as can be now. I think origionally it was locked up for quite some time and I just did not notice it. (few to no autos dont with this heli. I tend to auto when I have to and I will work on that as I know its best practice to auto regularly.

What I learned in this process is:
1. Check the one way every flying day.
2. Dont use metal to punch out a main shaft, dammage can result
3. It IS the bottom main shaft bearing that holds the main shaft tight in these cases. After your out of that bearing it comes up easy.

I actually bought a boca bearing one way ($22.00) but you have to take out the old one and get the new one in tight and in the correct spot vertically. I decided Ill use the boca when I need one next time, or Ill get the parts and make up a replacement assembly ahead of time.

I believe if I stood on the skids, I would have broken them pulling on the main grips trying to get it out. It was really tight

When mine locked up, I used a small crow bar. But, there was a bit of minimal collateral damage.

I'd rather be flying

I hope I'm not too late but don't pry anything. you don't have to. leave all of the bolts in, take a rag and put it between the clutch gear and main gear. once the rag "locks" the gear just rotate the main gear until the oneway comes free. if I remember correctly, insert the rag from the right side. if you already took out the lower Jesus bolt, you will have to reinstall it for this to work. you should never have to pry the mainshaft out of the oneway.

main shaft removal.

When the one-way is jammed, the problem is that the inner bearing race is being squeezed and it in turn squeezes the main shaft. All that is needed is to unlock the one-way. The best way I found to unlock the one-way is to put a allen driver or similar, in between the main frames through one of the holes in the maingear to stop it from rotating while turning the rotor head clockwise while preventing the main gear from moving. Once unlocked you can slide mainshaft out without issue.

Now you have it apart, consider getting the metal align bearing blocks or even replacing those bearings with Boca Bearings.

Mine was locked up tight as well. I will try the lock and turn clockwise should there be a next time but I doubt it would have worked for me last time anyway. When I got it apart the main shaft was fine, no issues there.

Now the easy way

Ok now the easy way, once they lock once they are pretty much done, one of the plastic keepers with be broken or bowed. Anyways for the next guy...

The main shaft is being squeezed by the one way collar that is being crushed by the sprag. Here is a good method...

Remove blades, nothing else.

Take an old main shaft and slide it down the left hand side between the pull/pull of the pitch servo (Futaba setup) and main frames, pretty much in line with the bearing block button heads.

Here is the key, put the old main shaft into one of the holes on the top gear only, do not let it engage the lower gear.

Support shaft against frames and turn rotor head clockwise with a sharp twist, in the worse one's it will still unlock.

Disassemble like normal and remove auto hub and sleeve and open garage door.

Take old auto hub and sleeve and throw it as far as you can, also try and hit a cat.

Hope this helps.
