Align T-REX 600N 700N > T-REX 700N Holy Sh!t ! - Red Loctite those Fan Screws

So I was at the Buzzin the Boarder Fun Fly having fun with my 700N when I started noticing the heli just didn't sound normal.

I took the heli back to the bench and listened carefully when I cranked it with a starter and then stopped - it sounded like something kept spinning. Sounded like something was rattling around, like a loose screw or something.

Came home and dropped the engine, and this is what I found - So what is wrong with this picture???

All 4 fan screws had completely come out! One is actually missing in action!

I always use loctite on everything, and even if I did miss something, there is no way I could miss all 4 screws!

I'm going to use red loctite when I install this the next time.

Has anyone else had any issues at all with these fan screws??

WOW! Again, it's alwasy good to land or go back to the bench when something just does not seem right. Looks like we both got lucky today Doug.

Wow, ALL 4 came out.

I wonder if it was hanging on by one screw for a while before it finally backed all the way out?

Odd that they'd come out even with blue loctite... Just curious do you clean the screws with alcohol before assembly? Maybe there was some oil down in the threads of the fan hub....

D, I hate to say it but looking closely at the pix. You may have trashed the hub, I hope not.

Looks like there is scoring where the bolt mounts, could be machinng marks though.

On the flip side, the clutch shoes like really nice..

Yea I'm trying to pull the damn thing to get a closer look at the hub, but it doesn't want to come off!

And yes, I removed the 2 screws at the bottom and removed the crankshaft nut.

I'm going to get some longer 4mm screws tomorrow and "pull" the fan hub off.

How do four screws come out like that. Seems like something else is going on

Does anyone remember if the fan was preassembled onto the hub?

I can't remember if it was or not. I'm thinking that mayby it was, and I didn't check it for loctite like I should have, and that Align did not use loctite and therefore all 4 screws came out.

That's the only viable explanation I can come up with......

Mine was preassembled, I bet thats what happened with yours.... NEVER trust a pre-assembled part I took mine apart and blue loctited the screws and reassembled it during the build. Glad you caught it before major damage was done

I had the exact same issue you did with my 600n w/metal fan. I heard a weird rattling sound during flight, so i landed and shut it down. When attempting to restart i saw the fan just dangling around the hub. 3/4 screws were missing and only one was holding it in place I ordered a new hub and screws, and i now have used red locktite on them.

Defiantly something to watch out for !

Mine was on also , the screws were all left loose on purpose like alot of the asembled parts , would be safer for them not to waste time throwing them together .

Y do they do this with some of the parts which you can see they have left them loose on purpose , y not just put them all in the box.

The same thing happened with my 600N. I think you have to REALLY make sure those screws are Locktited properly.

I lost my throttle servo yesterday, got stuck on 16K RPM, engine leaned out as it run out of fuel, overheated, plug blew, and small hole appeared in piston! Engine only 1 week old!

fly a rubber heli - it's cheaper!

i think they preassemble so they can make sure all hard ware is there and in its place. along with the parts as well. but yea if they are going that far, they should drop some lock tight and torque in place oh well good thing u caught it.

Just curious - how does this relate to the screws comming out of a fan hub?

In my experience, even on stuff that Align does put loctite on, they either put way too much or not enough. Also I have heard of some screws being loctited and some not. I always undo it all, clean off the screws and do it myself just to be sure. Not something I want to leave to chance.
